Just days after a line drive to the leg left Joaquin Andujar writhing on the ground in agony, he combined with Bruce Sutter to pitch the Cardinals to a World Series championship 40 years ago today:

On this date in 1981, the Cardinals traded pitcher Bob Sykes to the Yankees for a minor-league outfielder named Willie McGee. McGee went on to win the 1985 NL MVP, two batting titles, and three Gold Glove awards in an 18-year MLB career:

On this date in 1995, just two days after naming Tony La Russa the Cardinals’ new manager and one day after they began removing the AstroTurf from Busch Stadium to install natural grass, Anheuser-Busch shocked St. Louis with the announcement that it was selling the team.

I think the history of a team and big events is interesting and valuable….

As long as it is not used to justify the present….

I've been to 41 mlb parks and drove from here to the HOF twice.

Very few here know the history of the Cardinals well enough to discuss it on this forum.

The Cardinals FB groups as well.
