Seems he has looked pretty decent but then again you have Saggese Church and Fermin . Just wondering if anyone else think he could be a surprise to make it .. Odds don't seem good though

I'm late to the party on this, but is this the same highly rated Velazquez from the Cubs who didn't live up to the hype? I remember he robbed Donovan of an AFL MVP back in 2021. That was a fun team with some good future Cards on offense....Noot, Donovan, Gorman for a game before injury and Burleson.
Anyways...I remember Toby calling him "The Nelson" and singing his praises.
I think Velazquez is garbage in the majors, but adequate in the minors. If Noot is out for longer than expected and the band-aid of Saggese and Fermin can't hold their own in LF, then "The Nelson" might have to do. I don't care one way or another, tbh

I think with his power they would like him to but he has to start showing a lot more than he has so far

Either one of Fermin or Saggese will put up better numbers than Nelson, if they are given somewhat regular at bats. Fermin hasn’t looked lost in the outfield in the past, and Saggese is a good athlete. If given time and instruction there he could be quite good. The biggest draw back of the two is, neither has a particularly strong arm.
Both of these guys need to get 400 or more at bats this year. If they do, and fail, at least we’d know they aren’t the answer. We wouldn’t need another year trying to figure out “what we have! “

I’m sure they would. There’s very little chance of either of
Them getting close to 400 at bats unless someone has a significant injury

It could easily be done if they wanted to do it, but not with Urias and Velasquez on the roster.
Also depends on how long Noot is out. I don’t really believe he will be any better of a player than he has been, but with better heels, we’ll see!

I just don’t see how it could be done even without Urias and Velazquez most likely isn’t going to be on the team. Winn and JJ unless hurt will each start 150 plus games. Gorman is going to play every day they could platoon one of them with with him but that’s not many at bats and it wouldn’t get them at bats against right handed pitchers which they would need if you won’t to develop them into everyday players. And who knows how long noot will be back. I just don’t see how they would possibly get close to 400 at bats
