Thought this article by Jim Bowden would get some reaction on CT so posting it .

Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently commented on the extension and what it means for the Cardinals going forward, while also giving Chaim Bloom in the front office high marks for pulling it off.

Marmol extension is huge for Cardinals

"This is a GM and president's dream of a young developing manager to run a young developing team. He fits that mold," Bowden said. "I think he's a 10-year manager, and what I mean by that is I think he's one of those managers that's going to spend a decade managing the same team. In three years, they need to be in the postseason, they need to be contending. I want to compliment Chaim Bloom for not having him have to be sitting there with his job on the line this year."

This is just like corporate America. If he is agreeable he’ll be here a long time. MS was canned because he was not agreeable.

What’s the longest stretch in modern Cards history for a manager to suck and win nothing?

Shildt was a raging a**hole who people hated working for. Thats why he flamed out in SD so quickly too.

I followed NFL closely for a lot of years. Many 'agreeable' type coaches are in the business and they get fired after whatever time.
Think it was Bill Parcells , who once famously said , 'Every coach hired in the NFL knows he will be fired sometime . You are hired to be fired ! Just the nature of pro sports. Look this past year , John Harbaugh Ravens Pete Carrol past Super Bowl coach of Seahawks was fired by Raiders . Just the nature of the occupation . Not an indictment of their ability to coach.

Baseball is pretty much the same. A Skip Schumaker gets hired by the Marlins ..very agreeable guy and highly thought of .. He gets fired and now gets another job. Numerous examples .

He wasn’t great but He did get results though olis results aren’t good but hey the players are buddies with him so
I guess that’s all that matters

TLR was never Freddie Friendship either but another one that got results.

I often wonder if Shildt was just that bad, or if it’s been over blown because today’s players/younger coaches are just weak as h**l

As I said, he wasn't agreeable.

Where is the evidence that Marmol is good with developing young players?

But we are talking about the Cardinals.... Moe was agreeable and kept his job a long time. Agreeability is critical when working with this org.

Skip wasn't agreeable at all. He spoke up and voiced his displeasure when Ng was going to have to report to a new POBO. Therefore he wasn't agreeable. He was let go.

My Cardinal friend in St. Louis is an Oli supporter. He is not on CT . When I tell him the the discontent , this is his take

He says ' Oli has a winning record in his 4 years with the Cardinals.
The team no longer has All Star caliber players like Pujols, Molina, Waino , Goldy , etc.

He cites that the Cardinals made the playoffs with him at the helm when he did have the horses.

So that is one guys view .
He is a long time friend and we don't go back and forth on differing views as we each have our own opinion and respect that.
'

Yeah, I think we might have the same friend.

It's the standard stuff. It's the official litany of excuses. They should hang it in the locker room.

"Marmol is better than people realize."

Does that mean he's good?

"Well, he has a winning record and he got teams to the playoffs."

Yes, years and years ago, two of his teams had winning records and made it to the playoffs. Does it matter what the team did in those playoffs? Does it matter whether the choices he the manager made were any good?

"Well, he's great with young players."

Players like Walker, Gorman, Carlson, and TON? Should I show you the pitcher's list?

"Well, he's been working with flawed rosters."

It's easy to say those rosters with Walker, Gorman, Carlson and TON (should I show you the pitcher's list?) were junk after all the prospects failed at once. But we might also be curious about WHY all those players failed at once. Seems like maybe, just maybe, there was a culture problem.

"Well, yeah, but that problem was in the development, not at the ML level."

I think Oli Marmol disagrees with you. He's talked about siting helplessly while his veteran player ostracized younger players, and how younger players won't take his advice or obey his orders (to steal bases, for instance). Seems like maybe the problems aren't just in Memphis or Springfield, no? Seems like the guy in charge here has no real answers or leadership, but friendly advice to take or leave. I'm sure the young players love him, as far as that goes. He's not going to keep them longer, or make them come in earlier. He's not going to raise his voice. Does that make him "good" with young players? Quite the opposite.

"Well, I just like him because he's on the radio a lot. He seems nice, so everything bad that's happened isn't his fault, and when any goes right I'm going to say IN YOUR FACE, HATER!"

Now we're being honest.

Note: I didn't say Steven A that's a sports opinion guy on TV My Steve A. is bald and over 80 if that helps.
