What a wonderful thing it has been to be a Cardinals fan. I’m convinced that Gibby could throw 100 mph. McCarver stated that most of the K’s came on breaking balls. Tigers were focused on his fastball and he crossed them up. Tremendous!!

Wow, 2 minutes 13 seconds on the game at a time when broadcast news was a 30 minute show. Great report.

Sometimes I forget that more fans are too young to remember our greatness. I recall 1964, ‘67, ‘68, ‘82, 85, ‘87, 2004, 2006, 2011, and 2013. I also remember the dark days of the 50’s 70’s and 90’s.

Thinking back engenders pride as well as frustration with our losses. Lou not sliding home against Detroit, Flood breaking badly in CF, Denkinger and more.

Dewitt risks losing the younger fans as all they remember are the down decades.

Proves my point. No blame. It’s different learning history and experiencing history. Cardinals are second only to the Yankees as the best team in the history of the game.

Must have been some strong stuff you were using :) Yep only one Gibby.
Kyle Gibson was ok for he was hired to do. He gave them innings they needed, took his beating and still acted as a mentor to some of the young guys. If he's interested, he'll make a good coach someday.

I remember them all. This is my 70th season. The 50's were desolate and '56, '57 my first taste. We were a perennial, what was called in those days of the 8 team leagues, a 'second division club'. Long before me, there has a great three-year in the 40s before my time, and, the Gas House Gang in the 30s.

That’s where he got the song “I did it my way”.

We are probably the same age. My
Memories of 1957-59 are Solly Hemus, Fred Hutchinson whom Hemus replaced as manager. Eddie Kasko at SS, Don Blasingame, Von and Lindy McDaniel, Sad Sam Jones, Musial of course. Boyer in CF. Catchers Hal Smith, Walker Cooper, Billy Moffett was our ace reliever. All a little fuzzy. I remember GM Frank Laine trying to
trade Musial. I was 8-9 years old but the Cardinals were emblazoned in my mind. Sportsman’s Park was magical.
Just remembered Alvin Dark, Wally Moon was ROY, and of course, opposing players like Willy Mays and on and on

Cool to hear the legacy fans reminiscing.

81 was my first taste of baseball and 82 is when I first started watching. Ozzie and Willie had me hooked.

I have a DVD of that entire game, plus I saw it live on TV back then.
