Great game for the fans. Canada had all the momentum in the 2nd period, but Hellebuyuk was lights out.

I'm just very grateful I got to see it. If it takes 46 years for the next gold, this is it for me. I saw the 'Miracle on Ice', and this one. We watched 'Miracle' and 'Slap Shot' to cap off a glorious day of hockey. Go USA!

Jack the US is trending towards no more 40 year gaps.

Good grief...it's taken so long but hockey is finally being recognized as one of the greatest sports ever.

I do thank Canada for forcing it upon us but since then this country is heading and going to be their equal on ice on many many levels.

Also, 46 years ago the US team consisted of amateurs, while the Soviets were well paid employees of the state. This year, most countries fielded teams with at least a few NHL players. I would expect parity to increase.

In 1996, only St Louis had hockey teams and there weren't any across the river in Southern Illinois (except Granite C) and no teams in Kansas City. Now every high school in the area and most big schools in the state have some sort of hockey program (including the metro East Illinois). We also had to travel to Chicago and Detroit for real competition like the Chicago Showcase or with the Junior Blues. That has all changed and St Louis has one of the most dominant AAA programs in the country, and the popularity of the sport has exploded since 30 years back.

Hockey is here and only expect the USA to get better and better especially as it keeps spreading South.

Brings to mind a, now obvious, trivia question.
Name 2 high school classmates (same gym class)
who have won both Olympic Gold medals
And
A world championship in their respective pro sport?
