Francisco Lindor, Corbin Carroll and Jackson Holliday all out until the beginning of the regular season, or longer. No big deal, and maybe it happens every year and I'm just not paying attention, but I don't ever recall this rash of the same exact injury occurring right before the season starts. Maybe more pitchers pitching inside by design? Kinda' crazy, sure hope the Cards steer clear of it. With all of our newly acquired high octane, less control, oriented pitchers, the Cardinals seem like a likely target for such injuries. Sorry, just rambling!

I came to post the same thing. It's so weird.

I was thinking maybe they're injuring them trying to hit 105 in the cage and getting one off the end or jammed and wringing their hands.

well, more pitchers with control problems and more pitchers throwing 100 mph.

remember in the 80s and before that many pitchers topped out at 90mph. now that throwing 90 is considered a soft tosser, the extra velocity can cause more injuries. iz can also cause more control issues as welk

I think the clubs are going to have to have some spring training hand protection, particularly for their better players. No joke!

Yep. I know it's discussed to no end, but my god do pitchers throw hard these days.

Spin is also a reason. Pitchers are putting more and more spin on the ball to get movement and avoid barrels.

The game is very different from even 10-20 years ago.

It's cause by the knob of the bat and the hamate bone which is one the outside of the hand same side as the little finger.

I don’t think the players are getting hit with 100 mph fastballs before spring training.

Probably some new fitness trend gone wrong

Great example is the dumb trend to try and do push-ups on top of dumbbells. I had to stop doing those because the stress of my body’s weight upon my wrists and palms of my hands.

The idea was to promote flexibility and save time by doing a push-up, then pulling a single dumbbell off the ground, rotating from the core, and finally pressing the dumbbell straight up into a side plank. Naturally you rotate between left and right.

Well, that’s a lot of pressure channeled onto a thin area, whether it’s the surface of a metal pole or attempting to maintain a sturdy wrist.

I broke it into 3 separate, independent exercises and alleviated many lingering issues before they became some thing worse

Increased velocities and movement allows pitchers to pitch inside more. Also that bone receives much more wear and tear over the course of the season because training protocols have changed. Players practice off high velocity machines more often. Then when you add the pitchers with low spin efficiency, (these are the guys that throw a "heavy ball") hitters hands are constantly getting pounded with high impact forces.
