So the Cardinals are going to continue the switch pitching experiment for now. Ok.

Right now he profiles as a reliever unless he can develop. That likely means focusing as a RHP as the Mariners signaled was their development intent before the trade.

Not necessarily. Bloom did a press conference after the trade and he said that looking from the outside, he would probably continue what they were doing in Seattle, but did say that he wouldn’t make any final decisions until after they’ve had a chance to get to know him, watch him throw, etc. Either way, though, I think he’ll still continue to work from the left side in non-game situations just so he doesn’t lose that ability. You never know, so it’s a good thing to have that in your back pocket if you never really develop the way, everyone hopes you will.

I think I agree with a lot of what you say...and don't we have one of their former player devlpt. guys working for us now? But still, as just a normal dude who pitched a bit of Legion ball, I feel like the back and forth would be a mental and physical gymnastic on the body and mind. Just pick a side...appratently the right side

Is this AI? I thought pitchers and catchers didn’t report for another week.

His stats in 2025 indicate he is much better right handed although if he hurts the right arm it would be nice to be able to pitch left handed while the right arm heals.

Could also just use less pitches from the right side by pitching some batters lefty and make it less likely that his right arm does get hurt

Great thought. Save the pitch count. Makes sense.

In this Good article, Cijntje is profiling as a right-handed starter and a left-handed reliever. Been confusion on that . From the right side , he has 4 pitches he throws with his fastball several MPH higher. He has two pitches from the lefty side .

Officially, correct on reporting date but often players get to camps the week prior. Read where 60-70 Cardinals are in Jupiter right now.

BTW FYI for all Cinjtje pronounced ( 'sain -jah )

Reliever would be very cool.
Could pitch 5 or 6 times per week. 3 as a RH reliever and 2 as a LH reliever.
Then the Dodgers would not be the only team with 9 relievers since Ohtani doesn't count against the 13-pitcher limit.

Starter would be very cool.
Imagine a starter who never has a long inning because he switches and pitches all the LH bat left handed. Never more than 25 pitches per arm!
Could he be the last remaining pitcher capable of throwing a complete game?

Fun thoughts.

Another idea, he is a regular starter right handed, then used as a lefty specialist during his 4 games in-between starts.
