McCutchen

Supposedly Bloom has considered adding a RHB. I’m surprised the Pirates didn’t bring McCutchen back for a retirement tour. Now that they have signed Ozuna I don’t see room for McCutchen. I wonder if Bloom would consider signing McCutchen. I wonder if McCutchen would go somewhere else. He has a good reputation and might be a good mentor for Walker. Just a random thought.

McCutchen removed a picture of himself wearing a pirates uniform earlier today from social media. I thought about him last week as a mentor. His numbers last year aren't great. The Cardinals are probably better off going with internal options unless they would want a veteran who could help the young guys. I don't know if McCutchen would be agreeable to that or not. Yadi didn't seem to want to mentor Herrera at the end of his career.

I would love to have him.
If he does well, flip him at the TDL

At this point of his career there is really only one place he should be playing.
Pittsburgh!!!
Shame to see that that relationship appears to be fractured/fracturing.

I thought last year was his swan song tour as a pirate? He needs to retire or take up space on another 26-man roster. Not the cards.

We are not going to sign any player on the downside of their career. That is not the direction of this team.

Uh, rebuilding teams routinely sign older vets here and there.

So this year is an upswing from last year?

Cool. Let me know when the Cards sign one and I'll keep laughing at these daily McCutchen and Castellanos type threads. Pay attention.

I will lose my mind if we sign Cutch. He was so easy to root for in Pittsburgh. Had a cousin who lived there and said he was just an amazing human being.
I would be all in on him being the vet on this team.

I’m merely pointing out the inaccuracy of your statement.

I think they need one or two. McCutchen would probably be a good one IF he's interested in being a part time player and FULL time mentor to the young guys. Probably could use one on the pitching side too. This team is young and needs a leader. Sure there are some that may become leaders (Winn for one) but they aren't there yet.

Read that suggestion too on RR.
Doubt he wants to end his career on a rebuild and he's always seemed to have a dislike for the Cardinals (likely due t the fact they beat the snoot out of the Pirates almost his entire career).
I don't see the fit.

Goold alluded to Randal Grichuk in the chat yesterday and Jeff Jones mentioned him by name in a BND report. Don't know if that's informed speculation or just the two of them connecting obvious dots, but the fact they both said his name tells me there's some smoke there...
