Ramblings on JJ

I just want to say how excited I am to have a talent like JJ Wetherholt on the Cardinals, who I believe will be that profound player we've been missing since Pujols and since the sad loss of Oscar Taveras. Those were the last two players I can remember feeling the way I do about JJ, the feeling that he can be a dominant MLB hitter.
And, I can imagine his competitive spirit and work ethic infecting the rest of the club, and making our club more competitive than many would guess. Definitely a bit of wishful thinking and cartbeforethehorsery, but besides the great stats he just has that it factor. We'll see, but I wouldn't be surprised by ROY, and I also wouldn't be surprised if Bloom has to make a tough decision at the trade deadline because he has this team still in the playoff race.
I really do think he's gonna make everybody around him better, and I am very excited to get this new era started. Go Cardinals!

I am looking forward to watching a line drive hitter who uses the whole field and doesn't sell out for homers. It will be a big adjustment for him to face MLB pitchers. He and Winn up the middle will be fun. Will be interested to see if he gets some time at 3B during ST... Yes, I am looking forward to watching him adapt to the show. Hope Oli just leaves him alone and lets him play. If he has a good ST, then don't bat him in the 7 or 8 hole. Who knows how it will go. At least we have something to look forward to...

Since VSII and JJ have been working out together over the off season they should be in synch for 1-2 in the lineup. Pretty cool they have a previous connection. If those two click it could really be a dynamic top of the lineup.

VSII has a lot of work to do before he can hit leadoff. Let's hope he can, but his avg and OBP were not good in AAA either, not since AA. Let's hope he figures it out.

VSII should look great at the top of the lineup with his ops+ of 72? That would be very ugly!!!!

Unless you want to leadoff slow footed Herrera or Burleson, or trust Firmin's limited OBP success, no one on the current roster is a better choice than Victor Scott. Of course, having said that, I am definitely counting on a big improvement in his OBP, say the 330-340 range. That's not too insane to ask for, and those numbers and his speed would wreak havoc. Definitely worth a try with our current options, at any rate.

I think Bryan Torres will have something to say about the leadoff spot. He’s hungry. He has a .370 ish OBP. Doesn’t steal, and doesn’t have pop. But, I think he is the main reason Donovan became expendable. The brass secretly like this guy and I look for him to get a good opportunity this spring. If he comes out firing on all cylinders, look for him in the 1 or 9 hole. They would prefer for Saggase to be our utility guy, but confident that Torres can handle it if saggase struggles again. He’s my sleeper pick on opening day.

Another of the many pieces they have collected. They certainly have created some competition on the infield. I wish we had more competition in the OF. I do see that Torres has played CF before. One site said he had played 90 games in CF. Will be interesting to see if he gets any innings there in ST. I hope Baez keeps progressing. We need a corner OFer, and we all know that.

Did you just compare JJ to Pujols? Pujols was the most prolific hitter in MLB.

JJ is three months younger than Jordan Walker. So don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Yep. Scott and Walker cannot continue to suck offensively and keep their starting jobs. Please! Mo really fell asleep at the wheel with our OF offensive production! Bloom will get that sorted, one way or another.

I think overall, there are a few positives to look fwd to since past with JJ being one of them. Think he will be really good IF he can stay healthy as it seems he takes off a little more. However, that swing is beauty and he is a patient hitter.
I think also, Raniel Rodriguez, I am really excited about. Walker/Gorman were great prospects, but did not have the ability to walk like he does. Now we will see as he adjusts to upper level and breaking stuff, etc., but in terms of power and patience this early, habe not seen it in a while.
Lastly, it is a system now w intention to develop. They still have to produce, but it is not stale bread anymore.

Yes, there are a few good position players in the pipeline and some pitching. If there is no strike, perhaps we will see some filter up through the system by 2027. I guess RR is maybe 3 seasons away... Walker/Gorman are going to have competition. I suspect this is the year they either make it or perhaps are moved if possible. Here's to hoping the development system works in the minors and someone can also help the younger players on the big club. We shall see, but the feel of things has changed. I wish Bloom had shaken up the big league manager and pitching coach, but he didn't.

+1
Been saying this too DD!
And the kid, from what I've seen in interviews, has some big time charisma.............he's quickly going to become the face of the team and
the fan favorite if he's as good as advertised.

Scott needs to get a LOTTT better before he is considered anywhere near the top of the lineup. Right now he's a below average 8,9

VS in the 9 spit is pretty much having him at top of the order, but with less pressure.
