Veteran Presence to Stablize Cards

Bloom has mentioned another pitcher, righty OF, and bullpen stabilizer.
Starter: likely a bargain type - Quintana, Corbin
Bullpen: Fairbanks would do great - bring him home
OF: Bader wants $15 mil per for 3 - he’s out. Maybe a trade of Romero, Arenado or Donovan could get an OF.
No to Pham, Castellanos, Grichuk

I like the idea of Fairbanks. He would be a good mentor to Svenson and the other young hurlers in the pen. Plus he could be a good trade chip at the deadline.
I don’t blame Bader for going big, but at that price, hes out for us.
There are still some really good options for a veteran starter. I’m assuming Bloom will wait until some of these guys’ prices come down some.
If they are serious about moving Donovan and Romero, they need to be packaged together to bring back a young difference making hitter.

If we had a manager or staff who played the game at this level they could be the leader.

So teams don't need an actual player who's a leader?
So no one on the Cards staff has played In MLB?
You'd be wrong, twice

Us us us us us. And them them them them. And after all we’re only, ordinary men.
I find that players have a cultish relationship. They stay well within the heir ranks. Us.
Coaches, although often celebrated is still an opposing force. Them.

Mo should've never let "Q" get away, I'd love to see them reunite w/him!
(My Mizzou guy Fairbanks would be great but he may be out of BDWJr's comfort zone" h e l l NO to bringing back Harry as well as your "no's")

No to Bader too... he is what he is and we have seen that. 4th OFer at best. Spend some resources in trade or some money and get one reliable corner OFer who hits from the right side and can actually hit.

Interesting question.
Let's take it further.
If and when Donovan is traded, who of the remaining Cardinals would be looked at as "the leader" by the other players?
I believe I know.

I remember hearing that Herzog went to Ozzie Smith and asked him to work with Willie McGee when McGee was acquired. That's the manager being a leader and turning a player into a leader.

Innate modesty prevented me from the correct phrasing, which is "I know with absolute certainty and complete accuracy exactly who that is".
I should have set modesty aside and simply stated that fact with more clarity.

I'm sure Whitey Herzog and Tony LaRussa's and Earl Weaver's illustrious MLB careers were critical to their success.

Herzog played several years for multiple managers and had good baseball men on his staff. LaRussa surrounded himself with former MLB players. The 2006 world series team had Dave Duncan, Hal McRae, Dave McKay and Jose Oquendo.
The cardinals declined significantly when Mike Maddux left.

Yeah because managers don't often do this.
Then you have true leaders who are players and take players under their tutledge without being commanded by their manager. Both are valuable
