What I'm hoping in the Bloom era is better and quicker player evaluation...

What do I mean by 'player evaluation?' Well, it's an expansive topic, but more about the AAA to MLB guys. Here are some examples:

1. 2023 spring training: "Jake Woodford, you're our 6th starter." Blew up.
2. 2024 spring training: "Victor Scott, there have been injuries, but you're our CF." Blew up.
3. 2024 spring training: "Zack Thompson, you're our 6th starter!" Blew up.
4. 2017 spring training: "Randall Grichuk, you're our LFer!" May 29th, optioned.
5. 2017 spring training: "Eh, Tommy Pham, you ain't making the team." Recalled...11th in MVP that year.
6. 2019 season: "Hey Randy Arozarena, here is you cup of coffee, but Bader, Edman and other are more important."

Now today, we have questions about Gorman, Walker and others. I hope some serious player evaluation is conducted in spring training. The coaches shoudl have a good idea if these guys have problems or they are read to go on Opening Day. No surprises. No Memphis resets.

Good point, and good examples given. I was waiting for you to recall one of Mo's favorite lines "We need to see what we've got". I think Bloom will end up jettisoning more players from the 40-man before opening day, outside of Nado, Donnie, Jo Jo, and a catcher, based on what he sees between now and then.

Excellent post. And don’t forget all the free agent busts. Personally I think we can make a quick evaluation of Bloom from now through spring training. His decision on Gorman and Walker will tell me all I need to know.

On Walker. Just as it is when you are traded, you get a new org, a new set of eyes and ideas. Well, when you bring in a new group, isn’t that the exact same thing. New set of eyes.

Walker stays. Gorman has no home.
