Don’t know who Gordo is but maybe he knows something.

He quotes this Red Sox beat writer.

Selfishly I'd like to see Contreras at 1B with the Cards in 2026, but he is at the risky regression age near where we've seen Arenado and Goldy fall off significantly. I do think the Cards would be better with WC at 1B next season than with Burly there, but can't deny it'd make sense to trade WC if you can get good value for him this offseason.

Goldschmidt won the MVP in his age-34 season.

Random, unpredictable outliers to happen.

Key words, risky and near.
That said, how was Arenado in his 34 age season?
That said, I'd be just fine if the Cards take a chance WC performing well at his 34 age season.
I think WC will do well in 2026, but big deal, trying to predict who regresses at what age isn't good risk management.

The thing is, WC could have an .880 ops next year. Doesn’t mean he shouldn’t still be traded now.

Goldy also didn't have 15+ years of catching on his knees...

So far the Mets and Red Sox are rumored as interested. Hopefully other teams will join in and Chaim gets a bonanza in return.

Then Goldy fell off fast. Chaim isn’t looking at next year but the next five years or so.

Good news if you are Bloom is that with Red Sox and Mets interested you have two high profile contender type teams that Contreras should be OK with waiving his No trade clause.
If so, it would be highly unlikely that Bloom would pass on trading him IMO.

When i read this I thought you meant Phil Gordon of the Post Dispatch. But he passed away. He's breaking trades even in the after life. :)

It's the old trade a player a year early rather than a year late slogan

Just to save people some time, the Gordo guy states that the Red Sox are pursuing Contreras according to Chris Cotillo, who has an article talking about the Red Sox targeting bats. The article never outright names Contreras, but it does contain a picture of him with a subheader saying that he is "one of the many" bats that the Red Sox are targeting.

Edit: nevermind, I guess he does mention Contreras in the article.

Yep, like a can’t-miss prospect ending up worthless.
