In my opinion it's defense first

With the Cardinals lack of good starting pitching in my opinion any trade they make should be for defense first, then hitting second.

If you have to pay half his salary to dump him yes, keep him for his defense.
Depends what you get for him.OldRed wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 09:59 amIf you have to pay half his salary to dump him yes, keep him for his defense.
Arenado on the infield makes for a better team in the field. What would you say if he rebounded and hit 250 ish, living on singles and shots down the line and in the gaps.rockondlouie wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:20 am This team is sorely lacking in power, they have two Gold Glove caliber fielders who aren't good offensive players already in M. Winn & VSII.
What they need is a powerhitter or two (good luck finding one when BDWJr isn't spending any real money for a few years), not more glove only players.
I've posted the same a couple times BDog, perhaps being healthy now he bounces back to a .725-.750 OPS while still playing above average defense.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:24 amArenado on the infield makes for a better team in the field. It’s just as likely he has a better year. And young staff needs all it can get from its defense. Whole point of pitching.
Or two.rockondlouie wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:32 amI've posted the same a couple times BDog, perhaps being healthy now he bounces back to a .725-.750 OPS while still playing above average defense.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:24 amArenado on the infield makes for a better team in the field. But what this team really needs is a powerhitter.

But since that power hitter isn’t at third both in house or by way of trade, then we must settle for defense next. And as mentioned, not many better. Still.
What the state of the team shows is how far we have fallen. It’s one thing to fall into a hole with an easier recovery. It’s another to get neck deep. We are neck deep.rockondlouie wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:45 amOr two for sure.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:38 amOr two.rockondlouie wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:32 amI've posted the same a couple times BDog, perhaps being healthy now he bounces back to a .725-.750 OPS while still playing above average defense.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:24 amArenado on the infield makes for a better team in the field. Bloom has really got his work cut out for him finding one, let alone two and they need to play either in the OF or corner infield!

Yes it does.ramfandan wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:43 am Old Red,
I know from past posts of yours how much you love defense. ( I do too !) So have a kid for you that I think you would like a ton .
Now it would not be in a trade but a draft pick for 2026.
His name : Trevor Condon I found him on a mock draft for Cardinals at their extra 32nd pick they received in next year's draft.
I think he fits exactly they type kid you seek.
He was the No. 1 HS player in Georgia. He has signed to play for Tennessee this upcoming year.
He is a combination of hitter and defense. Smaller guy at 5-11 Compared to a Lenny Dykstra and Sal Frelich Brewers RF
Scouting report for this CF :
Shines with plus speed and dynamic defense in center. Posts premium run times, pressures defenses on the bases, and shows the range to project as a plus-or-better glove up the middle. The motor and competitiveness stand out, pointing to a table-setter who can steal bags, take extra bases, and chip in some power.
Sounds like the type kid you would like..a throwback hustle type player. Plus-plus runner .. can go track down balls in the gap . Plays with a flare and hair-on- fire type guy. Offensively is a good table setter who can steal bags, take extra bases, and chip in with some power too.
So I was excited that I saw him listed as # 32 for the Cardnals UNTIL ut oh here it comes I saw another mock draft and they had our rival Brewers taking Condon at their 25th slot in Round 1. Rats ! Gone 7 picks before our 32nd pick. Would be just like the Brewers to take this kid.
Kinda a better hitting Sal Frelich type they took in Round 2 a couple years ago. Well , will keep an eye on this Condon kid at Tenn. this year . He may be just what you are looking for . Trevor Condon From Etowah, Georgia
How does he sound to you , Old Red ?
Mo left C. Bloom a total mess, from the lowest minor league team to the Cardinals.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 10:49 amWhat the state of the team shows is how far we have fallen.
