Wonder if Mariners trade for lefty reliever could impact a possible trade with Seattle ?

Some thought JoJo Romero could be part of a Donovan deal to Seattle. Seattle today traded with Nats for lefty reliever Ferrer.
Mariners sent their top catching prospect Ford (their No.1 pick in 2021 and 4th rated prospect as part of return).
Made me think if there is a possible Donovan deal in the works maybe Seattle would want to also acquire one of our young catchers to replace the one they just lost. We sure have several in our system .
Was just a thought when I saw the Nats/Mariners deal.
Thought I would throw the idea out there .

Might complicate a trade with Seattle...but I wonder if Jojo's market just exploded?
Harry Ford was a steep price to pay for a lefty set-up man who got worse results than Romero.

Mariners Open To Reunion With Mitch Garver
By AJ Eustace | December 6, 2025 at 9:25pm CDT
The Mariners traded catcher Harry Ford to the Nationals earlier today as part of a deal for lefty reliever Jose A. Ferrer. In the wake of that move, the club is open to a reunion with free agent Mitch Garver, according to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times.

Agree. Harry Ford would be starting for many big league clubs (including STL), if it weren't for the Big Dumper in his way. Seems like a massive overpay for a reliever.

I would imagine that Ferrer is more highly valued than Romero.
For 2025:
Ferrer - 8.37 K/9,
1.89 BB/9, 0.59 HR/9, 3.03 FIP, 1.4 fWAR, 62.6 GB%, and
four years of team control remaining.
Romero - 8.11 K/9,
4.28 BB/9, 0.30 HR/9, 3.28 FIP, 0.9 fWAR, 54.5 GB%, but just
one year of team control remaining.

That’s not really close reference comparison. Wasn’t Ferrer the better deal.

Ferrer was seemingly always going to cost a lot more in trade.
Even if you say that they are generally equivalent from a production standpoint, it's the difference between Romero for one ARB-3 season and Ferrer for a pre-ARB season, ARB-1, ARB-2 and ARB-3 season. So that has to make Ferrer like 5x to 8x more valuable in trade.

Thanx. Yes as I saw it, stats independent, the time of control was lopsided. I figured the value difference came from there.
