Why would Contreras want to stay?

With Gray gone and if Donovan, Arenado and, possibly, Nootbaar are traded. The tone I sense, is that Bloom would also like to move Contreras as part of the rebuild.

Same tone I sense. While Contreras is still playing well Bloom realizes that Willcon is not part of the future so he wants what he can get for him now.

It defies reason. We would have to ask Willson.

Two years and done, obviously not part of the future re-build.

I'm a big fan of WillyC and have no problem if he wants to stick around and mentor the younger players (Bloom is on record as seeing value in these kinds of veteran players).

But I also get why Bloom would want to deal him since he has some solid trade value, also understand why Willy might want to go t a contender.

If there's a strong offer and Willy waives the NTC, then little doubt he's gone.

I read somewhere, speculation of a team that might even take on Contreras' entire remaining contract. In addition to sending as fairly high level prospect to the Cardinals.

No way BDWJr should pickup one dime of WillyC's deal.

$18M and two yrs for a catcher (and he would catch at least 80-100 games for his new team) who can hit like Willy is more than fair and should also return a solid prospect.

He would feel sorry for JJ, Masyn, and Saggese/Norman...all those good and/or close throws. He'd feel compelled to return, to ensure those throws become outs.

Contreras is a selfless human being.

We often disagree regarding Burleson. This is another one. There wouldn't be much of a let down on the concern you mention. Burleson is very good at digging out errant short hops. As well as making stretches to help infielders throws out.

I always thought of him as an odd sort of genius.

I wasn't talking about Burleson. And this thread wasn't either.

Your 2nd post under your own thread, you hijacked immediately....be a GOOD FAITH troll for once. Post the intent in the thread title... you don't even need to make it wordy. Just type "Burley". At least you'd be honest for a change.

Sigh

and Stats (actual facts) say Contreras was a really good receiver at 1B. Much better than the other guy who tried 1B in 2025.

You were indeed insinuating there would be a drop off if Contreras wasn't at 1B. If not, what you claim would be a ridiculous reason for Contreras to want to stay.

There have been a lot of quotes directly from him on why he would like to stay but there have been reports hes more open to a trade now for the right fit but i havent heard any reports on what he would consider the right fit

This is a Burleson thread, albeit a backdoor one. He's using Contreras as a pretext to switch the discussion to Burleson, without explicitly mentioning him in the title. To him everything comes back to Burleson, the sun around which all things Cardinal revolve.

So what? Why are you bothered by that? Knowing you, you were likely pizzed that Burleson won the Silver Slugger Award. I know how you operate, too.

he's a good RHB, would bring balance to a heavy LHB lineup. And stabilize 1B. It's only 2 more seasons, relatively cheap price. Love the passion.
