Why FANS come to the park

Been playing and watching baseball all my years, so I ask, who do fans want? Do they want to spend a small fortune on mediorce food and drink? Do they want all the hassle of getting to the park and into a seat? Do they recall their favorite players, no matter from which era? Players like Pujols, Molina, Gibson, Musial, etc.? Do they want their team to win on the day they attend no matter the outcome of the season? There are 30 MLB teams....if each one, won a WS, your favorite team would win 1 out of every 30 years? Winning the WS is a long shot to say the least. FANS LOVE THEIR PLAYERS...not uniforms, not stadiums, not OPS, they want to see their beloved players have a good day. We watched the Cubbies be horrible for years and years and still fill Wrigley. Acting like players are nothing more than trading chips results in ZERO loyalty from your players and most fans!

I'm more interested in the success of the name on the front of the jersey than the names on the back.

Donovan is a fan favorite who is just entering his prime. He walks the walk and leads by example. Why do you think the stands are almost empty? There is zero loyalty...owners, front office, fans and players, and they aren't listening to their fanbase... and nothing is sacred.

Maybe because the team hasn't made it past the 1st round of the playoffs but once in the last decade and is remarkably lacking in talent right now at the MLB level?

I dont think I could DISagree with you more. I think fans want to see their "uniform" win, more far more than one player having a "good day".
I dont think I ever heard anyone say, "the Cards got creamed, but I'm happy, Victor Scott had 3 hits".
I see it just the opposite of you. Players change teams all the time. The names on the back of the jersey are interchangeable. I want the name on the FRONT of the jersey to have a "good day".
As far as making the players feel like trading chips? What do the players do come contract time? Loyalty pretty much left dock back in the 70s. Teams do what's best for the team, players do what's best for the players. No different than any of us fans.

LOL - hyperventilate much? The Cardinals are not leaving St. Louis and MLB wouldn't let them leave St. Louis.

You could get 10 players in return for Stan Musial and still get fleeced on the trade.

Fans go to the park to be entertained. That can take all sorts of forms. Of course, pennant races and championships are the ultimate entertainment, but there are other types of entertainment as well. To see Arenado field at 3B is entertaining, even if he doesn't hit to league average anymore. Seeing Victor Scott steal a base is entertaining. Seeing a relief pitcher shut down a game is entertaining, even if it ends up being a high-wire act to do it. Seeing Albert Pujols all those years was entertaining. Seeing Jimmy Crooks make his debut is entertaining. Seeing players and teams get better is entertaining. Watching Paul Skenes pitch, or Shohei Ohtani come to town and play is entertaining. Watching a well played game, or even a hard-fought game is entertaining. People come to the park because baseball is fun.

The stands are empty because the organization divested last off-season. Now they’re in a mini rebuild.
There will be a time very soon, where the team is playing good baseball that people can get excited about. When that happens, you won’t even think about Donovan anymore.

So, now we know the premise of your thread.
So, Donovan is a fine ballplayer to have if you have the foundational star pieces to pair him with. He is a great 4th man on a championship-caliber team. On this team, he would be one of those pillar pieces, and teams with pillar pieces like Donny are mediocre teams at best. That is zero offense to Donny. Donny is one of the best complementary pieces in all of baseball. That is why he is attracting so many suitors, and why he is more valuable in trade to the Cardinals than he is on the Cardinals. He will garner a return worth more than he is worth if Bloom plays this right.
