The trade below was the 3rd one floated and listed as 'The one they can't refuse '
Your thoughts on if Bloom would accept two top 100 players for Donovan.
St. Louis Cardinals
Receive
2B Michael Arroyo
RHP Ryan Sloan
In this one, the Cardinals would get two top-100 prospects back for Donovan. MLB Pipeline has Arroyo ranked at No. 63, and Sloan a touch higher at No. 44.
It isn't clear where Arroyo's future defensive home is, but the bat is going to play no matter where he ends up. He has a .408 OBP for his career in the minors, and has launched 40 homers across the last two seasons. He could be a Howie Kendrick with more pop.
Though Sloan isn't Seattle's best pitching prospect, he's arguably the most exciting. He was only 19 years old this season, yet he showed off excellent stuff and excellent command in striking out 90 batters against 15 walks in 82.0 innings at Single-A and High-A.
The Mariners surely don't want to trade either guy, but they could also live without both. Arroyo's positional uncertainty makes it uniquely difficult to pencil him into the club's future plans. And timeline-wise, Sloan is behind Kade Anderson and Jurrangelo Cijntje on the path to the major
Sloan , age 19, is currently ranked 5th in Mariners prospect list with Arroyo , age 21, ranked 6th in their list.

I would do this although I'd hope to swap Arroyo for Farmelo. Sloan is the type of pitching prospect we have to get back in any Donovan trade. Farmelo could be a 20/20 or better centerfielder. Arroyo is 2b only but may have a little higher offensive ceiling.

I don’t like it. Get the single best SP equal to Donovan. For him I want something proven.

Of course the Cards would accept it.
That's a hell of a lot more than what Talkin' Baseball and I discussed.
Sloan, AAA/MLB starting pitcher with 4.50-5 ERA, and Competitive Balance B pick.
Will the Mariners make this offer? Unless there's an active Bidding War going on that we're unaware of, then NO they won't make this offer. Let's pray we get that bidding war.

you realize the Mariners aren't giving you starting proven talent? They were a breath away from the WS last season, they won't give up their Starting Pitching for an offensive piece. That'll make them worse.
And the Cards aren't adding MLB contracts in their trades...maybe they're forced to with a team taking Nado, but this isn't about Nado.

Good post, Billy !
Farmelo is returning from a torn ACL .. the kid had plus plus speed but they feel with healing he can still play CF well. ]
Here is a video scouting report on Farmelo.

It's not a terrible proposal, and much better than Mariners people generally float. Getting Sloan would be a big deal. Arroyo, as stated has been a good hitter so far. He is not good defensively and do the Cardinals really need another middle infielder type. He's a good player, but is the best fit of a package for the Cardinals?

I would prefer one better prospect in a deal for Donovan, but if they can't get that, this one sounds reasonable.
Arroyo is apparently transitioning to playing OF.

We need power hitters and we need an OF. Its a lot easier to patch together the back of a future rotation with 1-2 year deals and trades than it is to bring in plus plus OFers that we don't have and desperately need. Also why do we keep looking at players so far away that haven't succeeded about A ball? For a trade piece like Donny that just seems too risky. Take the risks with another trade but for Donny get someone closer to a sure thing - in MLB or MLB ready.

“Proven” means less risky thus higher cost.
Donovan’s trade value is pretty much set so your demand for certainty will only decrease the overall talent of the player(s) coming back.
There is a time for specifically seeking out high-end talent and the risks that come with it. The time is now.

That you have, good call if it happens!
I'd make that move in a NYMinute, then switch M. Arroyo to the OF!
And it will take a package like that to land Donny since the teams interested just keeps going UP...UP...UP as well as the price!

That up, up, and up thing is a media/fan thing. They work the bidding up to a frenzy out of boredom and excitement. These are cold-blooded businessmen making business decisions calling the shots.

The interest is strong and it's real TB.
Articles all over national sites that Donny is one of the hot commodities on the trade market, as many as 15-20 teams have inquired.
May not be the biggest name dealt this winter but the demand is there.
Teams Showing Interest:
Seattle Mariners: Have actively pursued Donovan, viewing him as a potential fit to address their second base need.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Have a history of interest and recent discussions for Donovan.
New York Yankees: Linked to Donovan multiple times for various roles, including outfield and infield depth.
Houston Astros: Have checked in on Donovan, seeing him as a potential fit at second base or the outfield.
Kansas City Royals & Cleveland Guardians: Also named among the teams interested in acquiring Donovan
No need for Bloom to rush and accept the first offer he gets.

I agree, Seattle is the best trading partner. Add other pieces to get 2 top hundred prospects. Sloan creates a long pipeline of top-level pitchers. It;'s a numbers game. Some will tank, but some will get to majors. Best to have more pitchers.

Bloom needs to try to get the power-hitting, young outfielder, Montes, in a deal for Donovan. Montes and Sloan would be a slam dunk. Getting both Montes and Sloan might take both Donovan and Romero. The Mariners are looking for bullpen help.
