Cards to tank next few seasons for better draft picks. Sell?

Better get used to losing and a lot of it! This team will be so stripped down it will look up just to see bottom. Will it be only 100 loses? or will it go well beyond that? Of course, some of you are paid to come on here and tell us how great this is. For the rest of us, we are not convinced! Will it e any better than Oakland, Pittsburg, Royals, Marlins et al who surge or almost surge to relevance then purge the roster of all good players. Rinse...repeat...

Feel free to sell the team any time, Billy!

Hopefully your streamlined payroll and draft pick model turns out well. Hope you catch relevance again in your lifetime. We understand the idea. Most of us are from Missouri and have to see it to believe it.

Thanks for the good years! They were great! Our granddads, fathers, uncles, brothers and sons all enjoyed them. Now they are fading memories, stories told to skeptical kids who for their generation find zero joy in launch angles, endless strikeouts and otherwise boring baseball. What will our generations look like if we really do officially unhook from the Cards now?

You know there is a draft lottery now. Teams are not incentivized to lose as many games as possible to get a better draft pick.

And there are rules regarding how many consecutive years a team can be in the lottery. No more Cub/Astro/Oriole style tanks. They should stink next year but hopefully be ramping up by '27.

I call bull chit on the OP. Want to see a 2d half pickup next year and looking forward to being competitive in '27....if we have a season. I like the direction we are heading and will be paying close attention to the farm next year.

My thoughts, exactly. The 2011 Cubs were a complete teardown. The Cardinals are actually not that far away from being as least as good as the 2024 team.

DollaBill couldn't give a Hoot about Winning a Championship.

Had he, he would have gone about his business with a bit more urgency.

One doesn't make long term plans at 84.

The Team will be sold. Right down to the few empty peanut shells scattered about the stadium from Days of Glory Past.

They now have 2-3 starting pitchers in the system who could be #2/3 types, maybe we get lucky and one of them turns into an ace. Otherwise we go get an ace. 2026 tells the tale on Walker (and Gorman if he's not traded). Wetherholt is on his way. Wynn needs to push past his small sophomore slump but the glove plays. Bloom needs to get good value for Donovan and Romero. That Comp A pick announced today will be very handy.

If we get 2 #2/3-type SP out of the current system. A few of the formerly highly-touted but oft-injured SP prospects (Hence, Hjerpe, etc) get turned into good relievers. Wetherholt is the real deal. One of the many catchers pans out. We get a #1 or another #2/3 SP from the Donovan and Romero trade(s). The next draft is decent. And we fill any position holes and maybe a top-end SP with FA money once spending ramps back up for a championship window....this could be a fun, competitive team in 2027 and a real candidate in 2028.

Such a beacon of shining light, you are.
Your delusions are truly something.

It's the checks I get for being a homer that enabled me to retire.
Oh wait...

And not eligible for lottery next season. Sad

I saw on Fangraphs where they had our farm system ranked 2nd, based on Future Value.

It's an interesting chart. I would say, if you put any stock in these values, our farm system is "barbell." We have some more high-end prospects than a lot of teams, but also a ton of value coming from the low end. Tells me that a lot of what happens over the next 5 years is going to depend on how Bloom and his team evaluate that lower-end talent. Trading away from surplus to help the MLB roster while keeping the hidden gems is the only way a small market team like St. Louis can be really competitive for a World Series.

We finished 19 GB in the Central. A division that sent 3 teams to the playoffs in ‘25. I wouldn’t call our plan going forward tanking; I view it more as some much needed roster churn.
