Did anyone ever play sock ball? We played with a pitcher and hitter, different distances for doubles, triples and home runs. It was actually a sock tied in knots and turned inside out and used a broom stick for a bat. Like cork ball a swing and a miss was an out.

Your cold.
We hit anything you could throw. Try rocks with a yellow wiffle ball bat. The best use of wadded socks was indoor basketball.

For many years cork ball was a St. Louis area game. They had leagues in Forest Park.

We created our own neighborhood league. Wiffle ball, wall ball. Any individual game.
The collective games of left field ball, Indian ball, street ball, etc were just daily games.
In my day, even hotbox Was huge.

We did the same thing. We would bat left and right as the Cardinal lineup was listed. We also played "hotbox" to see who could get out of the pickle.
When there were enough kids at the park we would play "rounder".

We did too, bat the proper hand. If I couldn’t be the Cardinals, I was Reds or Cubs.

Cut the end off a wiffle ball bat, stuff it with newspaper and d cell batteries, duct tape the (bleep) out of the end cap to put it back together and play with a tennis ball.
I grew up on military installations and the housing and parking lots were so tight you couldn’t take a chance of a baseball smashing windows, so we used a tennis ball. Usually had to clear the infield for a hit and then you had ghost runners who had to be forced in station to station. Homers cleared the parking deck. Good times

I hit a homer one day, hitting as the Reds Bobby Tolan. Over the street over the trees over the hose deep into back yard. That was my greatest tape measure in wiffle ball. Hit it off my biggest rival too.

The awesome imagination of children SBD! I was the whole '85 Cards lineup. I would remember where I was in the order each inning and would replicate the stance and swing of each player both from the left side and the right side. I hit bombs w/ the Jack Clark stance!

You couldn’t have said it better. Hit exactly the way they did. I had a mean Joe Morgan arm flap and a Willie Stargell at bat.

Goodness. Maybe the best game for kids not just baseball. Taught sheer determination. Constant failure and great reward when you “score.”
