Apparently, Burleson's trade value has really gone up

At least in the estimation of the Cardinals organization. "In another piece from Woo, Will Sammon, and Ken Rosenthal, Alec Burleson is another player the Cardinals won’t move “unless…blown away by an offer.” " Be nice if Gorman and Walker, two more highly promoted than Burleson, would come on like he has.

Only fitting for our Silver Slugger Superman.

That is normal GM speak in baseball 'that a specific good player won't be moved unless blown away by an offer '

It is just signaling to other teams that A. we are not trying to trade him and B. but he is not off limits either . That type of phraseology has been around for years. So nothing new.

It seems to me, Burleson might be able to get the much needed #2 type starting pitcher with a few seasons of control. Would the Cardinals make that move?

Weird, she wrote exactly the same thing about Donovan:
The Cardinals do not need to trade Brendan Donovan, and will do so only if they are blown away by an offer, a team source said.

How many times has it been brought up by you, over and over again, then dispelled that Burly will not bring back a number 2 pitcher. He is a one-dimensional player that no one is giving a number 2 for. But hey, at least your making progress vs. a previous post you made that said maybe a TOR starter for him or Donny! 8O Kudos for the progress.

The Cardinals won't trade both Donovan and Burleson. Which would you rather trade if the offers were comparable for both?

Maybe that's what is meant by "blown away by a offer".

that's the thing...their offers would never be comparable. Donnie's value is much higher. Burleson isn't bad, but they would never get same return.

They are comparable hitters and Burleson will be cheaper for longer. Granted, Donovan is much more valuable as a defensive player.

I wouldn't trade Burleson. I'd look to move Contreras and put Burleson at 1b. Hopefully they can move Arenado and Gorman in deals. Donovan if the return is high.

Agree
I like Burleson and if his bat continues to improve I could certainly see him as a core player.
Regardless.....you don’t move any player unless the deal is favorable.
Burleson is under team control and presents good value as a result.
He makes relative peanuts.

True Crav! Burly a plow horse, Donovan a speed pony.

no... Donovan is more valuable and versatile. And has been a better hitter for a while. They aren't comparable. Their returns would/will be much different. The entire baseball world believes this.

How about moving Arenado, Gorman and Contreras? And keeping Donovan for 3B, while installing Burleson at 1B.

But if Burleson had been “installed at 1B” (like you wanted), he wouldn’t have won the “Silver Slugger, baby!”
