Tink Hence

Is this the year where the Cards finally figure out that Tink needs to be in the bullpen? He could turn out to be one heck of a closer. The guy has electric stuff but his durability is non-existent. I just don't see him ever being a major league caliber starter. Thoughts on a cold, windy day in the Lou?

Too injury prone to count on him for anything.

I am beginning to wonder if he will ever pitch in a major league game. Major league arm, for sure.

I've been saying for over two years now, turn Hence into a CLOSER!

He's got an upper 90's fastball and a great changeup, think D. Williams type.

Hopefully C. Bloom and his people do this after they exhaust every opportunity (and they may already be there) for him to still start.

He's been in our system 5 years and made 68 starts. 257 IP. Chris Carpenter did that in a single season including playoffs. If he's not starter material after 5 years of seasoning, how will he ever be?

Hasn't been on my radar as a potential stater for over two years carp, why I started saying convert him to a closer in 2023.

I was all for giving him one last year to try to be a starter last season since the cardinals weren’t going to win anything anyway and he wouldn’t have helped the team anyway but he showed he can’t do it again so he should go to he bullpen. He could start in the majors in the pen next season. Although I doubt that will help him anyway with his injury history he will probably be like Reyes a few half seasons in the majors in the pen the rest of the year on the IL then out of it

Yep - one wonders how you avoid these injury cursed types. Roby and Hjerpe and some others have had it bad too.

Durability appears to be a considerable concern. However, he did just turn 23 years old. I'd imagine the Cardinals are treating him more of a wild card than anything else. Would love to see him healthy and stick in the rotation with his arsenal.

Its today's pitchers. Every team goes through it with so many pitchers eventually needing TJ surgery.

You can avoid them by going after primarily the pitch to contact losers the cardinals are used to going after. The big arms often have injury risks. Last season the cardinals had a very healthy rotation it just sucked because they didn’t have any big arms just the pitch to contact losers

Carp was a beast but I don't recall him ever making 68 starts in a season

I also thought that might be hyperbole. Otherwise I would love to know what year Carp did it.

Think I need to apologize to Carp4Cy. I looked at what he said again and realized that he was referring to innings pitched, not starts.
He could have made it clearer it he had hit enter key in the middle of the line.

Rock, I do remember you saying this back in the day, now that you mention it. Kudos! Just going for that one inning would have to decrease that stress on his arm and thus maybe the chance of staying healthy. This starting gig isn't his thing imo.
