This is about as bad as signing a reliever named Homer (Bailey).

Thanks for the post, Dan. I am fine with the Cards signing a half dozen of these minor league deals with non roster invitations to spring training. A couple will stick.

Yees. Think hamburger helper. This is mere filler.

Interesting only in that he does not represent the hard throwing, high strikeout type of pitcher that I hoped they would be transitioning towards even for their minor league filler.

The Cardinals have a pretty good success rate in recent years with taking scrapheap relievers and turning them into serviceable bullpen pieces. So on the surface this looks meh but I'd bet when we get to the trade deadline the Cardinals flip him for a decent return.

I don't think getting a return on him in 2026 is an expectation. I can't see him figuring in for any contending team down the stretch.

If the Cardinals get 20 or 30 innings mop up innings from him as the very last reliever you want to use in the bullpen, that will probably have to count as a success.

I think this pinpoints just how weak the bull pen is looking. We need arms.

Given BDWJr is in payroll slashing mode C. Bloom has no option other than to throw as many darts as he can at the board and hope a couple hit the target.

There are lots of innings to cover in both STL and MEM. NRIs are a part of every team, every year.

agree and of the couple that hit the target , he is keeping his fingers crossed that maybe one of those two hit the bullseye. He would look like a genius . People forget the darts that miss completely if you nail one of them !

Chances are he is not a factor.
Most teams take yearly stabs at guys like this hoping to catch a break.
Actually....while struggling to fill other needs recently the Cards have had decent success adding BP arms.
