There seems to be more interest in Arenado now

As opposed to last season. My guess is, the cost has come down. Be nice if Arenado opens up the teams he'd accept a trade to. Bloom needs to get a decent prospect for him. Which still might require a substantial contribution from DeWitt towards Arenado's future salaries.

After watching them not be able to trade him last offseason, hearing the dialog in the media, and even the low-level conversations on here, you still think they could possibly get a "nice prospect" for him?

Technically they were able to trade him. He just changed his mind on one of the teams he said he would approve.

And his stock has dropped since last offseason. It's no longer a question of one off. He's in steep decline.

we'll get an expiring contract...probably a pitcher with a 4-5 ERA who can give us 130-150 innings. Maybe a low DSL/FCL lottery ticket type if we kick in enough $...which we're likely to do....the lottery ticket is dream with Nado...I doubt it happens, but it could.

Yes, I do, with the Cardinals eating some of his remaining contract.

we really needed another redundant thread on this topic.

In my opinion, they would have to eat at least half of his contract just to trade him for basically nothing. They would have to pay almost the entirety of his salary to get any value. I think they pay the half and call it a win. I see no circumstance where they absorb the bulk of the contract.

No, it's about the futile attempt to trade Arenado last season compared to, apparently, a more encouraging scenario now.

The Tucker trade had terrible timing for the Cards. It led Arenado to question the Astros' ability to compete and him passing on the trade. Ugh. This winter I'm not sure who they will pay to take him.

The prospect of N/A being off the roster is more than enough compensation for STL.

It’s quite possible that the best time to move Arenado is at the deadline?
BTW.....while it is obviously best to deal him I would NOT move him if it means sending half or more of his contract with him.
Not smart!

Agreed. Half or more of his contract then we may as well keep him, unless we are getting back a decent prospect back. That I find hard to believe unless Bloom gets one of the other G.M.s drunk at the meetings in a few weeks. See Shady, you could still be right!

Yes
He is owed $42M for two years with $5M coming from the Rockies.
To shell out $15M or more doesn’t make sense.
Being that his contract drops to $15M for 2027 might make it more likely he gets dealt in July 2026?
