OT - a Brewers - Pirates trade

Should/would the Brewers offer:

Jackson Chourio (BTV 83.3)
Cooper Pratt (BTV 28.6)
Plus another lesser prospect (BTV ~15)

For

Paul Skenes (BTV 127)

If the Brewers want to compete against the Dodgers, etc. in the postseason next year, adding Skenes who could single handedly win the two games in a short series would be a huge step forward.

From the Pirates perspective, Skenes (with 4 years of team control left) is probably never going to be more valuable as a trade piece. They get a big talent in Chourio who will only be 22 next year and who is already signed to a contract which can run through 2033 with two team options at the end. Plus they get more value in Pratt and another prospect.

Maybe the Brewers have to add Jeferson Quero (BTV 20.8).

Interesting. Sucks for us. Skenes on a good team could be a 20 game winner.

I wouldn't take that trade if I was the Pirates.

Skenes is worth way more.

If I get a 50/50 response coming down on each side of this, I'll know it's a pretty fair deal. :D

If the Pirates make Skenes available, they will get far better offers. This is the type of generational talent on a cheap deal with years of control where BTV isn’t relevant and the bidding war would force an overpay.

Regarding big bucks .. the Brewers currently do pay Yellich pretty big bucks $26 M per year . He does have this year and two more (thru 2028) then could get out of his 2029 mutual option year and buy him out. The question is would they pay both Yelick and Skenes these next three years .

Lol. Gray is getting $35, wake me when you see the crew sniff anywhere near that, and what do you think Skenes will get a year?

I can see $50 a year. They sent $137 last year for their organization

There isn't a team out there that don't need a Paul Skenes in their rotation. I would think it would take considerably more to land him if the Rats shop him.

You want Skenes?

Then it'll cost you J. Soto or B. Witt, Jr. or N. Kurtz + J. Wilson.

Even then, as scouty pointed out, the Brewers (Royals and A's) would lose him to the Dodgers or Yankees or Mets the day he hits FA.

Per BTV, Kurtz and Wilson would be in the right ballpark for Skenes, but I don't think that actually helps the Athletics. Skenes doesn't make them a contender if they lose Kurtz and Wilson in the process.

Likewise I don't think the Royals would offer Witt as the net doesn't make them that much better now.And Witt has a NTC.

And I don't think the Pirates would want Soto because they can't afford to pay him and he could opt out in four years.

I get the perspective that Chourio isn't as good as Skenes right now.

But Chourio is under contract for eight years at an AAV under $16 million.

He's got room to improve a lot, and could be really attractive for a small market team like the Pirates.

If the pirates trade Skenes it will be for a barrel full of prospects. They have no interest in managing that organization to produce a winner. Totally maximum profit motivated.

Nope, the A's would lose two great young hitters and then Skenes when he hit FA.

Same w/Witt and KC losing him to FA.

Just gave Soto as the type of young stud it would take to land the best pitcher in MLB who still has years of low cost control in a "fair" trade.

It's really a tough call for the Pirates.

The teams that can afford to keep Skenes after trading for him won't offer the players it would take for them to get equal value.

Or they'd offer prospects and it's a c r a p shoot if they ever payoff as MLB players.

But by keeping him, the Pirates are still never even be a playoff team.

Could the Cubs offer PCA + O. Caissie............then re-up K. Tucker?
