He sure looked good last year. My question is will he stick as a catcher? It is not that I think he cannot be a great catcher, but catching is tough on the body. With a potential serious bat like that, do we really want him catching all those games in the MLB when he gets here? Thoughts?

a couple thoughts .. 1) yes, catching is tough on the body .. Guess the trick would be not to overplay him behind the plate but yet keep his bat in the lineup .. In other words , to give his legs a rest DH him here and there on days he gets a rest behind the dish . Catch him maybe 110-120 games type thing... 2/3 of the games with backup getting the other 1/3.
2) He does have a good arm and 'framing' for a catcher will decrease greatly in importance as by the time he reaches the big league , the ABS system will probably be used on every pitch thrown . Thus , the job of the catcher is just to 'catch' the ball and not worry about 'framing it as a strike' .
If he can throw out runners stealing at a decent rate, then he can play behind the plate.

You leave him at catcher until the moment he shows that he cannot handle the role.
Then, you move him.
As STL should have done with Herrera when he hit that moment several years ago.

Joshua Baez also got interesting this past season.

Actually, that's a really good point. I believe I read he's played some 3B in the past.

Fully agree that right now, Baez is more interesting concerning the next season or two for the Cardinals than Rodriguez is.
If he can somehow become the outfielder the organization has lacked for more than a decade, it creates quite a few possibilities for the team.

Right now, it’s nice to have him in our system, but he’s just so dang far away at only 18.

Guys like Skenes and Kurtz came into their respective systems after college at 21 and quickly graduated to MLB and took the league by storm.

Those are the impacts that I’m excited and hopeful to see from JJW and Doyle. Heck our 2026 draftee could get to the Majors before Ray Rod.

They have one right now.

I did not introduce him into this thread.
Someone asked why STL has had such poor results in trying to develop stars from within - and included Taveras as a can't miss prospect, who did.
I merely set the record straight.
Taveras killed himself, a young woman, and orphaned a small child - driving while intoxicated at multiple times the legal limit.
That is what you should find bothersome - rather than the fact I reminded you of that sad yet uncomfortable truth.
