Jonatan Machado, 2016...signed for $2.35million back when there was free spending (no allotment bonus for teams). The OF didn't work out too well.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 20:42 pm Gave him $2.3 million. I tried looking, butcan’t find it, but does anyone know what the largest amateur signing bonus they have ever given is and also how that compares to the rest of the league?
Thanks for putting things into perspective, but, you can't find the potential superstars without taking a few shots...hits and misses. I love that we are going after the Internationals.... Helluva way to find diamonds in the rough. I will try to remember and focus on Emanuel Luna.... Looking forward to your calling out a few of his moonshots in the years to come.craviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 21:29 pmJonatan Machado, 2016...signed for $2.35million back when there was free spending (no allotment bonus for teams). Next, would Jonathan Mejia, SS...signed for $2.00million in 2001. Too much swing and miss...still trying to escape Low A. The thought was he had grand pitch recognition...that's not the case. And he could stick at SS. That's not the case, though he does back up SS at times. Plays 2B when healthy and in the lineup. If he's still in Low A this year, he won't play SS...not with Yairo Padilla expected in Palm Beach for 2026.
Royelny Strop signed for $1.4million last year. Pedro's son... OF, 16yo, played sparingly with the DSL team last year while fighting unknown injuries much of the summer. His 17yo season, 2026, should be a major test to see if he can be ready to come stateside in 2017.
Wow. I don't even remember Machado. Don't have any expectation for Mejia. Still rooting for Strop, though.craviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 21:29 pmJonatan Machado, 2016...signed for $2.35million back when there was free spending (no allotment bonus for teams). The OF didn't work out too well.

If I remember correctly, which is asking a lot, Machado's style of play was compared to Ichiro at the time of his signing. He was known for being incredibly fast, good baserunner, good defender that could likely stay in CF, but a very light hitting bat that didn't walk enough to take advantage of his speed. Ended up being more Magneuris Sierra.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025 08:16 amWow. I don't even remember Machado. Don't have any expectation for Mejia. Outfielder
That's how kids going D1 are built these days. Go anywhere in the St Louis Metro area to a 6A, high level baseball program and they'll have kids on their roster that look like this. It'd be cool if he pans out.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025 06:02 amDon't know if he can hit, but dude's got some serious arms.
