Well, how many innings do you expect to get out of him? He's been prone to injury whether it's shoulder issues that he's had dating back to 2014 or calf and hamstring issues. Knee-jerk reaction is no, but the more I think about it, it could be a gamble worth taking if and only if...
1) you flip him at the '26 deadline/'26 offseason for prospects, and 2) you throw the saved money at another lottery ticket like Dustin May (who you'll then also flip at the deadline).
I know this is a different mindset than in any of the last 28 years, but we need to think more in terms of who can Bloom sign and then flip. Having Senga in the rotation for the next two years here in STL accomplishes next to nothing. Whomever we get for Donovan needs to be on the roster and contributing in 2028.

I try to understand. I really do. But just no to all these player for player proposals for Donovan. We would just keep him. And we will if the right prospect package isn't offered. We are seeking prospects to stock our system.

That's definitely the safer route. Going along with this thought exercise, you could theoretically get 60% of a season's innings out of Senga before getting perhaps a similar prospect return. I'd rather deal Donovan for a young (under age 26) major league starting pitcher w/years of control than I would prospects (re: too many times become suspects).
Donovan has BIG VALUE and there's already strong DEMAND, he should bring back a young major league starter.
Save the prospect returns for the S. Gray, NADO, JoJo, Noot, ect....deals if they materialize.
Donny is C. Blooms BEST trade chip, he brings back a major league starter, not someone's #12-15 prospect.

No. In no way does he fit in a rebuild. He can't even be counted on to eat innings, and he makes too much money.

Bloom would be immediately fired if he did this. Senga has a negative value contract and is already in his 30’s. They’d have to send a super high end prospect or two with him to get the Cards to do this let alone a one for one trade.

Cards are rebuilding so they need someone who has a future, not just a couple of seasons and off...but he would be BY FAR their best starter.

No thx - would rather pursue a deal with Seattle or Cleveland if we’re going after MLB pitching with controllable years.
