If Scott Walker and Winn hit for league average

Good morning.

If Winn Walker and Scott hit for league average, combined with JJ Herrera and Donovans replacement, would the Cardinals be

- below .500
- .500
-or above .500.

My thought is, if these guys improve, isn’t that the same as old prospects blossoming. Just took time and right environment.

Then the adding of two studs aces, and a big bat, would make them formidable.

If these guys don’t produce, then the job to over haul is immense.

Thought.

League average was .245. At .245 they would have to show production for that average to really help. Very difficult to know if would make an improvement without knowing production.

I think you are not accounting for a given increased productivity. If they hit for league average, that would be an improvement for three positions. A given. It can only help.
The level of productivity can’t be measured fully until a season ends. The question is- is the increase from those three enough.

League average won't cut it.

We were near .500 with this years production. If these three increase just to league level, as once projected, then you’d think combined with the other six hitters, we would be better.

If they can get to league average and as you say it don’t matter, then replacing those three wouldn’t seem better.

Nope. They don't happen in a vacuum. I suspect other teams get better to and I don't expect the Cards hitters mentioned, to get to league average. And as noted, it's production that needs to happen

Citral Glue.

You guys may all be right. None of the three may hit for average. But that’s not the point. Whether it’s these two or another three, would league level from these three positions/ players raise the win total to above mentioned levels.

Again, it would be about production. If they hit league average and lacked production, they would be in the same spot.

Again, to have them all hit to league average, that’s a lot of improvement. No doubt productivity goes up. Has to. Mathematically not possible.

In this premise I’m looking for it to continue. Combined would lead to a greater need to get that bigger bat.

An increase alone in average at a minimum creates more baserunners. Gotta be some good here.

Thanx for the note on Winn. Some reason thought him a 240 ish hitter.

I'm looking for one additional hit per week from Scott- can be a bunt, an infield single, or a drive to the outfield- doesn't matter. If he had done that last season, his average would have been more like .280. With his speed, if he gets on base at that rate, he becomes an offensive weapon.

You really think so?

20th Seattle Mariners .245. But it was about production.

Where the cardinals end up will depend a lot more on the rotation than what those guys do. The rotation killed the cardinals last season. Oli is a paint by numbers manager the bullpen has the makings to be good again and have 7,8,9 guys for him to go to with a lead they just need a rotation to get there to reduce the amount of times oli has to manage if bloom can fix the rotation to give him that then they can be decent
