Some of those are still on the team don’t know how much of that money the cardinals will have to eat to make some of those players disappear and considering the offseason just started it’s a few months early to even be asking the question of where it’s going. It could go toward payroll bloom said the pay roll will be about the same as 2024 so it will probably be spent on players

2022 178m payroll. If Arenado and Gray leave and they eat half of Arenado they will still be around a $80m payroll with no additions. That could be 3 or 4 superstars which would make this roster a contender. There was no need to rebuild. This is a reduce spending for profit. Nothing else.

We have $75 million on the books for next year, half of which is Gray. Arbitration salaries are projected at $30 million. Who wants season tickets!

They said the payroll would be similar to 2024 not 2022

So when Gray and Arenado clear $50m it will be spent? Most here will disagree with that. So what happened to the other $60m from last year? In 2006 and 2011 they were top 11 opening day payroll and top 10 end of season. Why are they now in the mid 20s? What changed? Spending went down first. Then attendance dropped. This is all on the owner.

Both caused by the owner not spending on superstar players and fielding a contending team . No one buys junk. Did fans attend in 2006 and 2011? It’s the same base. Raise the bar and try to win.

Also the cardinals were the only team to receive their full Fox sports tv contract in full so TV revenue dot NOT decrease

I'd like to see your source. Everything I've read indicates Sinclair/Bally's bought the tv contract and revenue projected to go from $75 to $58.

Right, but why is payroll continuing a downward trend? Salaries and contracts are on the rise. But not in STL.

They collected the last 2 years in full then negotiated a 25% reduction for remaining years but then have a new undisclosed contract for direct to consumers streaming platform that will more than double the amount they had for cable only. So why did payroll go down for last 2 years? The owner lies to justify resetting the payroll from top 10 to top 20 and some people just accept it.

The TV deal was a notable source of revenue for the Cardinals, who noted Monday the team was likely to decrease payroll for the 2025 season, though attributing that plan to more of a focus on player development.

Do you ever listen to the radio? It has been said many times the that is NOt how and Billionaire runs a business. The MLb payroll has nothing to do with the minor leagues. They are completely separate. Also a $5m increase in coaches and tech would have made them have the largest minor leauge budget of any team. What about the other $45m and not possibly another $50m. Also the reduction of 25% TV contract did not happen until this upcoming season and to compensate they sold the streaming rights. Which means an even larger income. Stop believing this franchise is cash strapped. Why does it have a bottom 5 payroll to revenue?

Unfortunately it's the new reality. I've been telling people this since Diamond overpaid. The bankruptcy was inevitable and the spillover into Cardinals was also inevitable.

I think DeWitt Jr or DeWitt III - whoever is running the team - would be better off charging a reasonable price to make the games widely available on multiple platforms to regenerate fan interest. It isn't only lack of tv money. It's lack of attendance. We are headed for a perpetual dump and rebuild in this new reality.
