$ to apend

So if the Cardinals are able to trade Gray and Arenado they should have cleared $40-$50m from payroll depending on how much they eat. If they don’t reinvest that plus some of the $50m they removed last year into the payroll ownership is giving the middle finger to the fans. With all this youth the need for elite superstar high end talent to make fans want to buy tickets should be the number 1 priority. I am thinking Murakami and Valdez would be my targets.

So you think they eat the $ they clear from unloading their 2 big contracts minus what they eat and have a payroll under $80m?

Have you seen or read any of the dozens of articles, press releases and interviews with Cards front office over the past six months? If you have, then you’ll know that the Cards are in the middle of investing in their minor league development system. Signing high end free agents to long term contracts is not part of their plan.

No MLB team operates that way to take $100m from payroll to invest $5m in minor leauge coaches. That is a lie. Fans were told to expect payroll to stay the same and increase slightly. So removing more means it will be reinvested. Otherwise owner can expect less than 1m fans next year

By making the best offer. That’s how other teams including the Dodgers do it. It’s time for the owner to decide to spend revenue % like the big markets. Cardinals used 40% of team revenue (gate and TV only) last year. The Dodgers Yankees etc were all near 80%

10,000%. Absolutely ZERO reason payroll shouldn't be back to 180M. None.

If they move those contracts, I think they will spend some money, but there is no Murakami or Valdez coming. I could envision them deciding how much money they needed to include just to get rid of these players and possibly adding 1/3 of the savings to get a better prospect, spending 1/3 on free agents, and pocketing 1/3 of the savings.

They only have so many roster spots. There are always quality players that can be had if a team is willing to spend. Fans want to see stars in their prime. Go get one

1m using their numbers or actual gate? We know their #s are 3x over attendance. Last game I went to 3 years ago there were under 5k and they said 30k

It was $178 in 2022. 4 years later at rate of other teams increase it should be $200m plus. That still wouldn’t get them back to top11 like 2006 and 2011

Agreed they are looking to shred as much payroll as possible, part of the reason for hiring Bloom. He knows how it is to deal with a low payroll. They won't up the payroll until they have a better tv contract and know about the CBA in 2027. We are looking at a $80-90 million payroll next year I believe.

Then the rebuild is at least 5 years. The next 3 FA classes have no elite players in them. It’s now or its going to be a AAA team for a very long time
