OT Worst Free Agent contract in history?

I'd say Rendon which has one more year to run at $38.5 mill. Since he didn't play a game in 2025, it's possible he may get $77 mill for ZERO games played. So far his years with the Angels totaled 22 homers, 126 RBIs and 3.9 WAR, for which he has received over $200 mill.

Aren't we glad Mo didn't sign him

Yeah, that’s gotta be right near the top with Strasburg. Josh Hamilton is probably in the top 5.

Chris Davis 7/161 was atrocious. As part of the settlement he gets paid until he's 51. This year he received 9.5mm, and he will receive smaller payments through 2037. Unlike Rendon Davis liked baseball but fell into a 54 AB hitless streak. It was painful to observe someone fall off a cliff like that.

Mike Hampton in Colorado was the first one that I remember going terribly bad from the beginning.

But the Angels have a LOT of contenders for the title.

Gotta be Strasburg.....$245 million for 8 starts. They paid him $35 million this year, the same amount next season and he hasn't pitched since he made one start in 2022.....just horrible.

I forgot about Strasburg, So Rendon and Strasburg tied for worst.

Great examples.

All of which prove IMO that baseball needs to stop guaranteed long-term contracts.

Zero incentive besides pride for these guys to perform.

And far too many don’t have any pride.

I remember there being quite a lot of people here dying for us to sign Davis. That one seemed like a terrible idea from the start. That guy had more red flags in his profile than a May Day Parade in Moscow.

Strasburg, dude actually had surgeries to try to fix including having a rib removed and some neck tendons or muscles, I mean he just didn't say "I'm hurt, pay me"...he tried but was just broken. Rendon on the other hand seems brittle. So I'd go with Rendon as the worst contract.
