Heyman source: Not retiring.. open to new opportunities.

MLB Hot Stove speculating he still may want to manage a MLB team again.

We absolutely don't want Don Mattingly in any shape or form managing the Cardinals!!! Not because of who he managed, or who he played for; we will have many young players; we need someone with the temperament to manage young players. Our new manager, if we get one, will have to wear many hats; sports psychologist, coach, manager, teacher, etc... Believe me - Mattingly is none of those. He's very rigid and not open to "new ways." Heckuva player though.

The Rockies are still looking and that will be their next move after announcing DePodesta as their POBO tomorrow.....

I would think Mattingly would prefer to sign with a contender.

This type of manager who “coddles” young players is evidently what you see, and what you got. Get me a Marine DI who can turn them into a men, a true team.

If George Steinbrenner were still alive, Aaron Boone would be packing his bags right now.

I could not disagree with you more. One, I don't think you have any idea whether Mattingly can or cannot relate to young ballplayers. Two, I think all children, employees, players, etc., seek discipline, structure, and guidance. They may not state it, but they seek it.

Craziest thing I ever heard- but so true . It’s exactly why people join the military- they seek a discipline they can’t alone install. It’s present- needs kick started.

All humans seek structure.

Correct.
A true leader can be demanding and supportive at the same time.
The role of the leader is to make others better.
