Two Teams I Would Approach About Nolan Gorman

Frankly, I would entertain conversation from any team about Gorman, but with his trade value where it is, interest may be limited. Here are two teams the Cardinals should initiate a conversation with about a Gorman trade.

Athletics- I've been saying this for about 6 months now. They are really getting set up with young, dynamic position players, but lack a third baseman. They have a super-crowded outfield. Ask about right-handed hitting Colby Thomas. He plays all three OF spots, hits for power, and strikes out a bunch. He is fairly fast, and hopelessly blocked. They have another OF prospect coming along who is very similar (Henry Bolte). I can't imagine how many HR Gorman might hit playing in the minor league stadium in Sacramento. Gormans' trade value has been very similar to that of Thomas all season until he tanked in September. Ask.

Arizona Diamondbacks- Since they traded Eugenio Suarez they have had an opening to fill at 3B. They have tried prospect Jordan Lawler there, but as inconceivable as it sounds, he has been decidedly worse than Gorman. In 42 big league games he has hit .165 with 0 HR, and 5 RBI's. He has struck out at a 35% clip and mustered a .478 OPS. He is 23 years old and has played 2B, SS, and 3B. He is more athletic than Gorman, and while probably not with the same power potential, probably a more balanced hitter. Currently, Lawler's trade value sits at 0. I think in the long run he will be a better player than Gorman. Arizona is a great place to hit and is home to Gorman. Perhaps he would do well there (or at least better). Would Arizona entertain that? Ask.

Arizona has eyes on N/A.
He may not end up there, but as of today that is the most likely landing spot.
The best spot for Gorman is 3b in STL - and he fits better with STL than any other team in MLB.

It would be great if Arenado ends up in Arizona, though you are the only one I have heard mention it. (You, and you alone  ) Either Nolan in the desert works for me. STL can't be the best spot for Gorman, but it might be the only spot.

It has been widely reported that AZ may seek a short term 3B with a plus glove.
They traded Suarez and want a defensive upgrade.
They tried Blaze Alexander and were not impressed.
Lawler also got a look but made 7 errors on the infield in about 100 innings - and was returned to the minors.
They are not convinced either are long term MLB infielders, and are looking for a short term 3b to give Lawler in particular more time.
They want a RH bat.
Additionally, they are known to want more RH depth at 1b.
Bottom line is they have a high-scoring offense already and are focused on run prevention through improved defense and added pitching.
N/A perfectly fits what they are looking for positionally.

I can see the appeal of a RH bat for them, and of course the defense, but they have some pretty big pitching holes to fill and I could see them wanting to spend less somewhere to make it happen. Gorman does that.

If you have way to make Gorman a productive major leaguer, or can swap him for someone who is- I'm all about it.

Productive MLB player.
Over the past 4 seasons, Gorman has been very, very consistent at producing 80 RBI per every 600 PA's.
Whether folks understand it or not, though he strikes out too much and needs to raise his BA by 20 points (10 more hits per season), the game is about runs - and he is one of the team's top 4 run producers.
Howe many Cardinals drove in runs at a higher rate than Gorman?
3.
Do you know how many 3B's drove in 80 runs last season?
4.
And how many LH hitting 3B's did so?
0.
Again, whether folks like it or not, the team needs power, and it needs RBI - and Gorman is the best available current option for doing so at 3B by a wide margin.
And data says STL is highly unlikely to acquire anyone by trade who would be a better option either.
I am never for nor against any player.
I am free of bias, free of agenda in all things.
Facts.
All I do.
And facts say Gorman's best fit is in STL and STL's best 3B fit is Gorman.

Of the two 'Zona would make the most sense for Gorman.

But honestly if both NADO & Donny are gone (JJW is going to be at 2nd base), then I firmly believe Norman will be at 3rd base.

As for NADO, watchout for the Phillies who I think will trade away Bohm and then make a move for NADO (with BDWJr eating $15-20M for a couple of lotto tickets).

Wetherholt at 2b, Gorman at 3b is indeed the best option STL currently has.
Donovan should be moved to LF (and serve as infield insurance).
Mootbaar should be traded (as I alone correctly understood and advised for the past 4 years), and Walker should be shoppe das well.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.

I too would have Donny in the OF if he remains a Cardinal (I think he's dealt).

Noot won't be dealt until midseason 2026, he has to be given time to re-hab both his injury and his trade value.

Walker needs to be at Memphis all season.

Agree on Arizona as read in multiple reports DBacks have interest. With geographical proximity to Nado’s home base and sunny weather, Phoenix would make sense.
Boston may be in play again as Bregman opted out there. Bregman could stay but if he does not Nado becomes fall back replacement once again. Lot May depend on how long Bregman decision goes. Bloom could strike Ariz. if Boston drags out.

Any Cardinal line up with Gorman in it is a bad line up.
