The Cardinals will have a lot to sort through in spring training. Does anyone know which Cardinals players are participating in the World Baseball Classic? The WBC is really interesting but sure disrupts spring training.

not sure...but I pray we have the minimal amount this time. Waino, Goldy and Nado were horrible after the WBC. Would've they have been at their 2022 level by not going? I don't know, but I'd much rather they got their Spring Training reps in Spring Training than hanging with other geriatrics in the WBC. Their drop off from 2022, especially Goldy and Nado was extremely steep. I have a feeling WBC played a part.

IIRC the Cards organization sent around 15 players to the WBC. That's way too many.

Top of my head, and I'm more positive on the Minor League players than the Major League players:

2023 Cards Org in the WBC

USA ~ Waino, Goldy, Nado, Mikolas
Mexico ~ JoJo, Gallegos
SK ~ Edman
Japan ~ Noot
Great Britain ~ King, Koperniak
DR ~ Cabrera
Puerto Rico ~ ??...Yadi managed, but he had retired at the end of 2022, so if he played it wasn't as a Cardinal.
Israel ~ Mendlinger
Canada ~ O'Neill
Panama ~ Pereira
Italy ~ Pallante

I'm forgetting a couple? I think so.

IIRC, Richie Palacios played for the Netherlands.

good catch.

That's an incredible amount of players for any organization to bear. WBC should be in Decemeber. Not Spring Training

That's just my opinion...FWIW

I would imagine Donovan, with his position versatility and coming from a military family, will get an invite for team USA. Maybe Sonny Gray? Willson Contreras will likely play for Venezuela.

Donnie was born in Germany and has played for their national team.

I do not like the timing of the WBC. It's disruptive to the real baseball season to follow.

Agree with this. I think it is disruptive and not a good thing for this team at this time. This is not a veteran team and has lots of things to figure out. They need time together.

Many of the players seem to love it.

They sure do.

I should've said I hate the "timing" of it.

If it was held in November, after the World Series in dome stadiums or Cali/S. Florida, then I'd love it!

But I can't stand it in March, disrupting spring training and risking teams losing a star player.

I think it's ridiculous. If they want to do this, then reduce the regular season schedule.

There is nothing more exciting than watching a team from the Netherlands try to play baseball.

If they'd do the WBC in November after the World Series in dome stadiums or SoCal/SoFla, then I'd like it.

During spring training is a s s inine.
