Blaze Jordan

I have an honest curiosity here more than a point of view. In all the different talk about trades and roster re-configurations, I NEVER hear Blaze Jordan mentioned as a candidate for playing time at 1B or 3B. Is he destined to be a Luken Baker, or does he have more of a future than that?

I could see him getting a very long look next year. Maybe at DH or 1b

Fair question.
First, with Willson possibly gone and Herrera at least starting the season at catcher, it could open up playing time for him.
Second, I think this trade was a Bloom move, and I’m guessing he knows about BJ.
Call it a hunch, but I think CB is high on him. And I doubt the cards would trade for a AAA player to keep him there.

After what he showed at Memphis, he shouldn’t be in the Cardinals immediate plans. If he gets off to a good start next Spring, then maybe you start to give him some thought, but he needs to really show a lot of improvement.

That's why I ask. I see nothing that shows he's nothing but mediocre minor league. But maybe there's something there...he's RH so that's a plus. Struggles in Memohis

I don't "know" a lot about him, that's why I have a curiosity and not a firm point of view. I'm asking. I know he stunk up the place in Memphis after he arrived last season, but even with that factored in he hit .270 with a .781 OPS overall. He also had 19 HR and 99 RBI's. He only struck out at an 11% rate. While he only hit .198 at AAA Memphis, he hit .298 at AAA Worchester. Could it be that being 22 and being traded for the first time just threw him off a bit? I don't know. I'm at least curious about him, but never hear him talked about.

Think Jim Lindemann.

I was taken aback by his high GB rate of around 55% with Memphis. Then I looked up his Worchester GB rate and it was 50%. In lower minors including AA he was low to mid 40's ground ball rate.
His EV with Memphis never impressed me either....he avg around 85mph, and I believe high minor league power hitters are usually landing north of 88mph on average. Even the HR's weren't smashed...sometimes you'd get towering, 97mph EV's...I felt those would be can of corns at the warning track in Busch Stadium.
I can't fathom setting aside playing time with St. Louis for the kid. If the F.O. is on record that JJ has to earn his spot this spring training, then I expect Blaze would have to earn his as well. The difference between the 2 players is JJ has the better resume.
Edit ~ JJ's EV's with Memphis were 91.4mph EV....greater than Blaze's 85-86mph EV.

Hoping I am wrong, but the games I watched I got the impression Baker 2.0.

Bloom wanted him, so I guess it's a preview of his evaluation skills. He's young and has the build for a power guy. I haven't seen anything but highlights. None of his numbers really scream at you except that groundball %. Maybe Mo can help him with that. I see it as giving up an expiring contract for a shot at a power bat. It's better than getting back proven mediocrity.
