I would prioritize trading Arenado, Gray, and Contreras.

That puts Donovan at third? No team Ace, and Burleson to first. Is that correct.

I would say more like a Gorman/Saggese platoon at 3B, maybe. If this assumes not trading Donovan, he might have to be in the OF or at 2B pending if Wetherholt opens the season in St. Louis. Burleson at 1B.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:05 amThat puts Donovan at third? No team Ace, and Burleson to first. Is that correct.

I mean you have a lot of options at that point. I'm not opposed to trading more players than just these three, but those are the three I'd start with to start remaking this roster.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:05 amThat puts Donovan at third? Donovan is a candidate for 3B certainly. So is Gorman. Both are also candidates for 2B, as is Wetherholt. Gorman could be a candidate for 1B, along with Burleson (same with DH). Donovan can play the OF but I prefer him on the infield dirt. If Herrera doesn't stick at catcher he can also figure into this OF, 1B, DH free for all. The key is we have opportunities now to see how these younger players fare and can make decisions accordingly.

Tough call. I will wait a year and see if the Bloom culture helps Walker.ramfandan wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:09 amYour 3 players to trade, Sikeston Bulldog ?sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:05 amThat puts Donovan at third? No team Ace, and Burleson to first. Is that correct.
I don’t like Gorman at third, to error prone, kills pitchers momentum. Unless he goes to first, there is no place. IH has DH covered.
So Gorman is one. Noot. No real place here. Willy. Frees up first.
I keep Gray.

It’s generous to call Gray an Ace. And Dewitt alluded that they would be willing to add if they can get rid of some more contracts. So if they could somehow manage to offload those 3 perhaps that opens up some possibilities on the free agent market

Not that I dislike any of them, just that they either need to be traded or will bring back the best return:
-B. Donovan/strong return
-S. Gray/strong return (if BDWJr eats some salary)
-NADO/needs to be traded
(Although he said he'd "listen", IMO WillyC likes it here and won't waive)

Team Ace. Not league Ace. I agree on the money front. But who do you add cheaper that will be effective. The pool is shallow.Banner29 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:18 amsikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:05 amThat puts Donovan at third? No team Ace, and Burleson to first. Is that correct.

I’d keep Gray, hope Libby and McG can be league level threes, and start the rebuild with a league level number two.
Re: Name 3 Cardinal players you want traded …
People get caught up in the 'ace' designation .. Bottom line on Gray is that skill wise many good teams see Gray as a solid starting pitcher. Aces go to free agency now and then but very rarely will a true 'ace' get traded. Gray is an experienced veteran who teams seekin a solid no. 2 or 3 guy would want on their staff. The only question is not his talent at his age but how much the Cardinals can bring down his contract salary so he is worththile to another team. The guy knows how to pitch and is very competitive . He also is a good mentor if you have young guys on your staff.Banner29 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:18 amsikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:05 amThat puts Donovan at third? Gray could pitch for any contending team in MLB, including the two playing for the WS.
If BDWJr is willing to eat $10+M, then he'll bring back a solid prospector young major leaguer.
