I'm smelling a desperation move by Army

Post by a smell of green grass »

Uh oh. I'm smelling another desperation move by Army, ala Bolduc. You know the guy that needs for the team to stay competitive. :(

There is no way that Army would trade away our #1 (Top5) this year for somebody's discard C, is there?

Please tell me "No" so that I can sleep tonight.

He'll extend Sunny...4yrs/$20m and people here will call it a steal of a signing like they did with Fowler.

Army is not trading our first round pick which apparently is going to be a top 3 pick at this point…

So you wouldn’t have signed Fowler after the season he just had?

Who should the Blues have gotten to do what he does?

No, I would have let him play out his contract and see what numbers he put up this season in a full season. Doing this would have saved the Blues $18mill over 3 years...there was ZERO reason to extend him when they did.

Without Fowler, which Blues D would you move into top four? Kessel? Tucker?

Exactly. There was no reason to get him extended. Outside the Lou. There isn't much want for 34yo defenders.
He got his deal the way most here gets a contract. Army Schenn, Sunny, Walker, and Neighbours. Wanted it. Just like the Bolduc trade.

But of course. There is not anything else he can do besides smelling.

They way Fowler is playing he isn't Top 4...but the point remains NOTHING would have changed this season, Fowler was still under contract, he plays out this year, if he sucks he walks, if not we maybe make a play, if outbid we hunt for another Dman...this isn't rocket surgery, Fowler isn't someone you build around, he's basically a glorified Leddy.

Personally i would waive Texier and promote Stenberg the Blues will say Stenberg isnt ready perhaps they are correct. Idk if Dylan Peterson adds anything other than hustle, Torop 2.0 the other "kids" (Dalibor, Stancl, Robertsson, Kaskimaki) arent ready either. For me today Stenberg is the Blues best prospect and closest to the NHL
I dont see any other moves reasonable

I was fearing that the desperation would lead Army to bring in Kevin Hayes 2.0 at a high price. Thankfully, he is going to give DVO a shot. If DVO fails miserably, it may be back to desperation city.

Go DVO. Keep Army pre-occupied with his Olympics tangent, and away from the phones.

You address that when the time comes. After this season.

You then extend him (if warranted) or shop elsewhere.
