Is the season over? Who won the World Series?

I jest, of course, but once again MLB shows they are run by a collection of clowns, or at least from the very top. Building on the momentum of a classic ALCS, they let 3 days of . . . . crickets . . . . go by before staring game 1 of the World Series. Why? So they can showcase as many WS games on weekend dates as possible. Sounds like a great plan on the surface, right? But outside of southern California and Ontario the sports the hype is not there and sports fans are moving on. I am interested to see what the ratings will be for games 1 & 2 as they compete with football (and every other lesser TV sport broadcasting this weekend). /rant

I personally am excited to see the matchup. It doesn't make a difference to me what day of the week it is.

That's fine, but the World Series is MLBs marquee event and it should be presented to maximize viewrship. That involves attracting the more casual sports fan. Doing so has economic impact. Saturday night's game 2 goes up agains 8 NCAA games involving ranked teams, including Michigan-Michigan State. It's the first weekend of the NBA season with full slate of games Fri and Sat nights, plus a full slate of games in the NHL.

The OP's point is valid. Since we have added more and more rounds to the playoffs and more off days in between series, it is hard to keep interest in it unless you are a fan of one of the teams remaining. If this same series would have taken place within the context of a four team playoff, the whole country is watching. It's just too drawn out that this point. You find other things to watch and get interested in.

My best guess is it's scheduled this way to avoid Sunday Night Football. They need to draw more casual fans, and going up against the NFL game of the week would be tough. And this year it turned out especially well given the interest in Aaron Rodgers facing his old team. I do agree the three day break kills momentum.

The delay is so teams can get their pitching rested….avoiding a situation where one team may have a worn out bullpen, giving an advantage to the rested team…
