Do the Cards go after Murakami? He looks like the real deal.

Same. Maybe Chaim delivers in this area...peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 15:27 pm I’m not buying into any speculation that we can be a player for impact talent from Japan or Korea. Maybe it was the Mozeliak factor, maybe not. We’ve heard Cardinals were interested in Yamamoto, Sasaki, etc. End of the day, we never even made the final cut for those guys. Didn’t even get an interview with Yamamoto after months of talk in Goold and the media about our interest.
Most of those guys end up on the west coast. Imanaga is an exception in Chicago.
Hope it happens. Believe it when you see it.

By the way there is another Murakami who pitches for the Giants. You might want to note that you are talking about the hitter.

What’s his BA (check out the improvement in Teoscar Hernandez and how it’s tied to his BA) walk rate, and OBP? Strikeouts can be an issue, but can also should be taken in context. Look at Schwarber.

And a .500 slug. An .850 career OPS is something I’d take in a heartbeatscoutyjones2 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 17:09 pmSchwarber is a career 346 OBPRed7 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 15:51 pmHorseTrader wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 13:59 pm I'd be worried about the strikeouts. Did you look before you ask? His BA, which I think everyone decided is pretty worthless, is hit or miss. His OBP is fine because he gets walked a lot. SO now the question for you to answer, will he get walked as much in the MLB? My guess is no, if strikeouts go up, then his OBP and BA both go down. Probably along with his slugging.Red7 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 15:51 pmHorseTrader wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 13:59 pm I'd be worried about the strikeouts. BA is not worthless when comparing contact rates and strikeout rates. It can show how much contact he makes. The improvement in Hernandez last year CAN be seen in his BA. The more hits you have, the greater chance you have of hitting home runs. Of course, looking at BA doesn’t say much. Neither does looking at strikeout rates in isolation.HorseTrader wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 19:26 pmDid you look before you ask? His BA, which I think everyone decided is pretty worthless, is hit or miss. A better comparable then Hernandez or Schwarber is Seiya Suzuki. He came over from the same league at basically the same age. He was a power hitter, with lower K rates.
Suzuki's last year in Japan his K rate was 16.5%, this year in the MLB it was 25.2%
Wurakami this partial year in Japan 27%, last year 29.6%. So if his norm is around 28% in Japan and jumps 8-9% in MLB...... well it could be ugly. For the record this year Schwarber's was 27.2%.
Basically you have to gamble that Murakami can keep his K rate down to 27% or so. Looking at Suzuki's increase, you have to wonder. One other thing about Murakami, he's not considered an amatuer, so he can get whatever salary is thrown his way.
I simply don''t see how Hernandez or Schwarber are even remotely good comparables. Neither played in the Japan league. So none of their numbers give any indication of what might happen to Wurakami's numbers moving from Japan to MLB.Red7 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2025 22:49 pmBA is not worthless when comparing contact rates and strikeout rates.
