The Greater home run- Pujols/Lidge or Adams/Kershaw.

Good morning.
Here’s one never debated here. The bigger or better home run. Some could say Lidge was never the “sane@.” What about Kershaw?
This isn’t a franchise level question- simply between these two at bats.
Thoughts.

For me it was Pujols/Lidge. It stands as an iconic moment in baseball. The Astros reaction. Obviously had the Cardinals won game 7 it would be even that much greater. But at the time Lidge was considered so unhittable. Even though it was Pujols it was almost shocking. The distance, Lidge being unhittable, the Astros reaction. Pujols being a franchise Icon. I know a great argument can be made for Adams but give me the Pujols/Lidge.

Nice reply. Yea one led to a game seven the other to the NLCS. And off Kershaw. I think this is a reasonable debate.

Adams and it ain't even close! One of the home runs resulted in a WS and the other just delayed the inevitable by 2 days!

For me, it's the Pujols HR. If I remember the sequence of that 9th inning correctly, there were two outs and the bases were empty for Eckstein, who singled. Edmonds worked a walk. And then The Shot Deep into the Heart of Texas.
If I could relive one home run in Cardinals history for the first time again, it's that one. Edmonds' walk-off against Miceli a close second. (Sorry, was too young for Ozzie's '85 HR so don't have that personal attachment like the others.)

It’s Pujols and it’s really not close.
Though not as crazy as game 6 of the 2011 WS, it my first taste of the cards looking like absolute toast, then winning.
Two outs, bottom of the ninth, down by two, no one on base and facing arguably the NL’s top closer. And on the road.

Agree. Adam’s and it’s not close. For me also while the pujols home run was big to me it’s not super surprising it’s Albert pujols one of the greatest players ever for him to come up clutch while exciting isn’t shocking. Matt Adam’s of all people hitting a home run lefty on lefty against a future hall of fame pitcher and probably the best pitcher of his generation was absolutely shocking and mind blowing and as you said helped advance the cardinals in the post season. It was almost as shocking as taguchis go ahead home run against Billy Wagner in 2006

They were both pretty great. Unfortunately, both lead to disappointment with an eventual NLCS defeat.

I was at the game in STL when Adams hit his while I was only watching the AP homer. So, for me I vote Adams' homer.
I like it when the Cards win.

Pujols HR immediately halted the celebration in Houston. It was akin to the 9th in game 6/2011.
I was happy as heck when Adams hit hr. I went nuts after Pujols hit his. Especially after the bitter game 4.
And about delaying the inevitable, it’s not like the 2014 cards won the WS….

Albert/Lidge.
Lidge had this aura of invincibility in the 9th. A reputation that he definitely earned. And he wasn't right for all of the season after, and a good deal of the season after that before he got right again. Even in that era where guys weren't posting gaudy K/9 totals, even relief pitchers, look at what Lidge had put up to that point.
I thought for sure we'd come back and paste Houston after that. And if I remember right, we couldn't have been more flat that next game.
