Pierpont told Bloom last spring as they observed the kid in spring training , 'That kid is good !' Mautz went on to pitch well this year in Double A finishing 8-3 in 25 starts with a 2.98 ERA He started and won the Texas League title game for Springfield this year. Looks to pitch at Memphis in 2026 . Keep an eye out for him . Sounds to me like Pierpont has a good eye for pitching talent.

No wonder the MLB team and coaching staff performed so poorly. Who could concentrate with such an intricate and complex system of moving parts building all around them? Obviously, no MLB team could both perform at the ML level and handle such detail at the same time.

I'm not even sure that next year is a 90 loss team. You take the Fedde and Mikolas starts out, and if you can improve some on the Pallante starts, those things help a lot no matter who you replace them with. We will lose some players we like, but hopefully they are bringing back players that help.

My bold take- we have already bottomed out. How long does it take to truly become competitive? I don't know, but the time of the contract plays, and clunky roster fits, and a tone deaf front office have bottomed out. Improvement up ahead!

Interesting summation that no MLB team could perform at the ML level and handle the minor league side upgrades etc. Apparently the Brewers did both just fine ... have won their division 6 of last 7 years while simultaneously doing a great job at the minor league level ( Baseball America has Milwaukee graded A+ farm system). No wonder POBO Matt Arnonld won Executive of the Year .. he is someone that can walk and chew gum at same time. If Bloom can come close to doing what Arnold did with Milwaukee, the Cardinals will be a winning organization again.
