Post Dispatch Ben Hochman had sit down with Cards Asst. GM Rob Cerfolio regarding how Cardinals under Chaim Bloom have already made big steps i improving the Cardinals.
Last year 'Cerf' as he is called said the club hired 20 new coaches/staff last offseason and will hire nearly that number again this year . Cerf said they did some recruiting to find the best teachers. They also invested in new technology like Hawk Eye, Pulse, and Catapult (see article )
Bloom Cerfolio and Larry Day have done a lot already to improve the organization for the long term.
The Pierpont hire to run the pitching side seems quite positive too.
In the article linked, Bloom during his sitdown with Cardinal writers said , 'I don't think any of you would have asked me about our 2022 No .2 pick Brycen Mautz ... Pierpont told Bloom last spring as they observed the kid in spring training , 'That kid is good !' Mautz went on to pitch well this year in Double A finishing 8-3 in 25 starts with a 2.98 ERA He started and won the Texas League title game for Springfield this year. Looks to pitch at Memphis in 2026 . Keep an eye out for him . Sounds to me like Pierpont has a good eye for pitching talent.

They need to pair him up with Jordan Walker as a peer mentor kind of thing down in AAA next season.
Sometimes a peer can have more influence than a coach.

No wonder the MLB team and coaching staff performed so poorly. Who could concentrate with such an intricate and complex system of moving parts building all around them? Obviously, no MLB team could both perform at the ML level and handle such detail at the same time.

Winning the AA championship gives some credence to the premise.

Any word on whether all that innovation and hiring cost more or less than Miles M.'s last extension? or the Adam Wainwright Farewell Tour?

Interesting summation that no MLB team could perform at the ML level and handle the minor league side upgrades etc. Apparently the Brewers did both just fine ... have won their division 6 of last 7 years while simultaneously doing a great job at the minor league level ( Baseball America has Milwaukee graded A+ farm system). No wonder POBO Matt Arnonld won Executive of the Year .. he is someone that can walk and chew gum at same time. If Bloom can come close to doing what Arnold did with Milwaukee, the Cardinals will be a winning organization again.

Incredible. Got rid of the bum and now they are setting up the core infrastructure.

Bloom has done a terrific job repairing the broken minor league system and his hirings down below are very exciting.
This is one of the reasons, combined w/him hopefully making some solid trades that adds to the system & big league roster as well as some smart (low cost) free agent moves I think this "re-build" could happen a lot, lot quicker than some think.
I still don't see this being a three-four year, 90 loss process.
This winter is going to be fun, can't wait for the roster makeover to begin.

I'm not even sure that next year is a 90 loss team. You take the Fedde and Mikolas starts out, and if you can improve some on the Pallante starts, those things help a lot no matter who you replace them with. We will lose some players we like, but hopefully they are bringing back players that help.
My bold take- we have already bottomed out. How long does it take to truly become competitive? I don't know, but the time of the contract plays, and clunky roster fits, and a tone deaf front office have bottomed out. Improvement up ahead!

Reading articles and listening Karraker, Bernie, and others, thr new hires by Bloom get very good reviews.. Ron Cerfolio ,asst. GM player development from Guardians did fine work there developing that group, Matt Pierpont, director of pitching, did well with Seattle’s pitching and Larry Day will be in charge if farm system.
We didn’t have those type guys in place under Mo.
After watching a 40 min. YouTube video interview of Cerfolio, I was quite impressed.
I know some fans just focus on what our 2026 roster may be but it is the above guys that will have more impact on the long term success.

Agreed, the "re-build' has already been taking place right under our nose (re: system upgrades + huge payroll reductions) and will continue this offseason.
Bloom made some really smart deals while in Boston (re: TGKS, Pivetta, Abreu) where he gave up little but got back a lot.
(and any idiot that brings up the M. Betts deal needs to leave CT since you know nothing about that deal)
Getting rid of Fedde, Mikolas and Pallante (no way I want him starting, bullpen is his only role going forward) from the rotation should automatically make the 2026 team better given those three we're bottom of MLB starters.
With some smart trades, DFA's and minor league promotions (JJW) I think the 2026 team can win 80-85 games.

This forum really needs a "sarcasm" tag, as my post was entirely sarcastic. That's how pathetic the Cards have been with their whole press conference last offseason and yada yada yada... Of course, any and every MLB franchise should not only be doing this now, but should have been doing this non-stop since its inception.
I don't know how the Cards went so far south so fast, but there was one man in charge of it all and thank goodness he's finally gone.
