Without relying on a black swan series 2-3 years imo. With this park and how this org has been successful run prevention should be the theme. I also think they should take the DH seriously. Either signing one or drafting and/or trading for one. Someone who is absolutely useless in the field but has a bat from the heavens. Looking at the teams that made the wild card this year, some of them are not all that impressive.
Cleveland: they have one superstar - Ramirez - and a good young pitching staff led by Bibee, Williams, and Cecconi.
Detroit: they have one of the best pitchers in the game - Skubal - and two young sluggers - Carpenter and Torkelson.
Cincinnati: Good young starting pitching, but still not dominant. Lineup is inconsistent. Bullpen is weak.
Boston: they have a solid lineup, and a great pitcher in Crochet. The rest not so great.
IMO the Cardinals could be as good if not better than the level of these teams in 2 years, if Bloom makes some smart moves, and Bill opens the wallet just a bit.

So in my opinion, the cardinals - 2025 version - are much closer to Boston and CInci. If they can’t pick up a solid middle-of-the-order bat, and another veteran starter for 2026, they may improve to that level next season
However, What continually amazes me is the lack of baseball acumen that many of their prospects show in the field and on the bases. Make sure we have a solid team on the field, and you’ll also see ancillary improvements from the pitching staff
