Rays looking for catching help.
I think we have catching help. And someone who might have a better read on their system than others.

Moving a catcher seems like the natural thing to do given the talent, current and future, the club has stockpiled at that position.
Bloom left TB years ago and he's had a lot on his plate since so I don't know if he's kept up with TB personnel. I'd be more concerned that the Rays' people have a better read on StL's minor leaguers than the Cards themselves.

There was talk that The Rays were shopping Taj Bradley at the trade deadline, hes not a #1, or #2 but he hes still young and strikes hitters out. He could be a decent pick up. I like Yandy Diaz as a possible acquisition too. Strong righthanded hitter with a club option for 2026. Hes 34 yrs old. He would look good in our lineup. Hes more of a DH but but with Hererra wanting to catch or possibly moving to LF, Diaz could work.

The #4s on most teams would be our ace.

Taj Bradley was traded at the deadline to the Twins for 30 year old reliever (Griffen Jax). He's a pretty good reliever with 2 years control left.
There's going to be serious roster churn (both MLB and AAA) between now and opening day.

My bad there, I missed that move.
The Rays have some young, as yet untested, pitching in the minors, but they might not want to move any of those.

I liked the idea of getting Bradley at the deadline, as a "buying for the future" type move. He's had a rough career so far...but he's someone I could easily see straightening himself out and put up some good seasons.

Then they won't get a good catcher. They produce quality starting pitchers regularly. They''ve had a hole at catcher forever. To get someone like Jimmy Crooks, they could easily trade someone like Ty Johnson, who is their #19 prospect. He is a 6'6" right hander who pitched last year at AA. He had 149K's in 110 IP, a 2.61 ERA, and a 0.94 WHIP. 24 years old. Other pitchers of interest would be #20 prospect TJ Nichols and #11 Santiago Suarez. If the Rays aren't interested there are half a dozen other teams needing catching. Something will pan out.

This is our best opportunity for picking up good prospects. It would be nice to know if Herrera is going to be able to make the progress that's necessary for him to be playable there. I have my doubts.

While he may surprise me (I'm open to that), I wouldn't plan for Herrera to be any better of a catcher going forward than he has been to date. I hope he will be, but I don't use hope as a strategy. He's shown himself to be a sub-standard catcher in more than one way for two seasons. I'll believe different and plan different when he shows different.
They should trade Crooks this winter. I'm not mad if they don't, it's just the right time and he can bring back needed players. I'm also not upset if they give catching time to Herrera, as long as they don't ignore what they see. They should start the year with Pages as the primary catcher. My hope is that Bernal shows well enough at AAA by the trade deadline to call up and trade Pages..

There's much worse things happening in the world than my thread getting stomped on, boss. No blood, no foul.

If we are trading for a #19-20 prospect- just Crooks.
