How do you rate Oli's moves to the other managers in the playoffs?

The color guy was ready to rail on Shildt for removing Cease in the 4th inning after a double. Then Shildt's pen proceeded to pitch 1-hit, 6 K shutout ball over the next 5.1 innings.

The Padres have the best bullpen in MLB and today it showed.

Yesterday I thought Counsell handled his pen very well. Today, I could not believe he let Imanaga pitch to Manny with a man on second with 2 outs. I expected the cubs would give Machado an IW, and then have Imanaga pitch to LHH Merrill. If not, I figured Counsell would bring in a RHP to pitch to Manny. The last thing I expected was what he did, and it backfired big time.

Been following baseball for a long time. It seems to me that the intentional walk is used hardly at all anymore, compared to years ago. If that's the case, I wonder if it's because (bleep) near every pitcher throws a hundred mph these days and the manager just figures his guy will blow the batter away.

How about the bunts and the double steals. All year we never saw a manager make things happen.

Bunts, hit and runs, stealing bases is common strategy for Shildt and the Padres. One of the things I like about his approach when he managed the Cardinals. Counsell has always liked the running game. Marmol increased his use of bunting and base stealing the last couple months of this season, but he still seems clueless when it comes to the hit and run.

No, he didn't.

Oli was fine in the 2022 playoffs. Nado, Oldy and Helsley weren't

Well, it is rumored that oli was a snitch for Mo and provided info to get Shildt fired. So maybe oli's best moves are ladder climbing and espionage?

Cards Talk managerial legend Terry Francona is killing it in these playoffs. If only we had that guy......
