I took it as a calculated way to lower the bar of expectations. This roster should be nowhere near a playoff team yet they were. Cardinals haven’t shown lately that is even so easy.

You can see DeWitt is accomplishing his goal by how many fans believe it is realistic a team of this caliber can do "anything" if they just reach the playoffs. People that compare this team with the ones from the past fail to realize there have been about 3 more wildcard slots that have been created since then. It's very sad to see how so many fans have fallen under the DeWitt spell. Fans in the past had high standards but are now content with being around or under .500, as long as they get into the playoffs. Way to lower the bar. That is a step. Not a goal. A step towards the goal of being a WS champion. Ask the Dodgers and Yankees what their goal is.
