Will the dearth in attendance motivate DeWitt?

How is he not embarrassed to the point of wanting to shell out some big bucks to add some "star power" in addition to the arrival of Wetherholt? Ex. an established top of the rotation starting pitcher and a big time RBI producer. Maybe a couple hired hands from this group could help the situation.

BDW is one of the major lockout proponents, he doesn’t want to swim in the deep end with the Dodgers, Mets, Yanks, Phillies, Cubs or any deep pocketed team
He wants either a salary cap or increased revenue sharing, in the end, he will get neither as MLBPA will tell him and other “poor” owners to shove it, and due to public pressure from fans, they will cave in for nominal concessions
So he can either cry poor or sell the team
That’s how it’s going to shake out.
P.S. Midwest teams such as Milwaukee, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit making playoffs weakens BDW stance even more

If you can't see by now that the DeWitt's are absolutely willing to torch the fanbase if it means saving tens of millions annually on payroll, then you are quite slow on the uptake.

I'm wanting a nice long lockout if players kick over a salary floor/cap. 5, 6 years or so. Also needs to be a change in TV deals to even make sense at this point. I don't know what's become of baseball but my interest level has dropped through the floor for some reason over the past 10 years or so. Seems like a shell of what it once was

I seriously doubt if the Yankees or Dodgers want to give up any of their local TV money. The current system clearly benefits the top payroll teams with the stars.
The NFL is successful because you can go from worst to first from one season to the next. You are not relegated to perpetual payroll purgatory with their salary cap and revenue sharing.
2025 Team Payrolls
9 of top 15 made playoffs, 3 of bottom 15 made playoffs.

The Haves: Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Mariners, Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, Cubs, Padres, Giants, Astros, Rangers, Braves, Tigers, Angels
The Have Nots: Orioles, Rays, Marlins, Brewers, Cardinals, Reds, Indians, Pirates, Twins, Royals, Rockies, Nationals, D-Backs, A's, White Sox
The lockout is gonna be a doozy.

The Cardinals are only "have-nots" due to their own mismanagement. I don't have hard data, but I think it's insane how much money they have left on the table over the years due to not having a blue chip app & TV access.

Overall MLB attendance has not suffered lately.
2025 was slightly up over 2024 . 0.09% Owners can't cry that attendance is dwindling . (Maybe DeWitt but not overall in MLB )
MLB's total attendance for the 2025 season was 71,409,421 fans, a very slight increase of 0.09% over the 71,348,366 fans in 2024, marking the third consecutive year of attendance growth for the league. This marks the first time MLB has had three straight years of attendance increases since 2005-07, and it's the first time in eight years that overall attendance has surpassed 70 million for three consecutive seasons.

I don’t see them spending significant $$ in FA this offseason.
You all mentioned a potential lockout.
But I’m also looking at only one high end contract left(Contreras) after 2026 and that is only one year.

The NFL model works fine, but MLBPA will not follow suit

How much of a discount on those tickets and how many really showed up?
They need some kind of TV package for the middle/small market teams.

Cuse,
I agree with you that there will not be any significant $$ spent this offseason.
But, my question is WHY NOT?
I mean our payroll is practically nothing. If they subtract more $$ (Nado, Gray, Contreras, Mikolas off books, etc.), why can't they/why won't they spend money? I do not understand this.

How will attendence effect Ball Park Village. This will effect BDW pockets also. Less attendance less traffic there

Since Marmol is still here don't expect any big changes coming this off season. Ollie is like the canary in the coal mine.
