I was told early in the season that this offense was great.

It started before that. Since June 30th, team was complete and utter trash. I thought 23 and 24 were the worst Cardinal collapses I'd ever seen; those don't even scratch 25's surface.

Seems to be a hallmark of Marmol teams. And yet, sure sounds like we'll have to suffer through another year--though hopefully not another extension.

That was around when Nado was hurt. Willson and/or Hererra for much of that time as well.

If we trade Nado and Willson (and Donovan and Noot and Hererra as some have suggested) for competely off the radar prospects that will never even see Memphis, 2026 will be much much worse.

26 may be worse but as long as it's a full rebuild that's completely expected. This year's team had the components to nab that last WC. That being said, the injuries definitely hit and hurt at the worst possible time. Of course, didn't help that every SP suddenly started serving meatball specials every inning in July.

Anyways, it's mercifully done, and I for one am happy for that. lol

What does a successful full rebuild even plausibly look like?

JJW is already slated for MLB and should have already been here the same year as his draft class brother N Kurtz, especially after Donovan got hurt.
Doyle should be fast tracked and nobody will block him.

But after that??? What return did we actually get from the 2023 "haul of prospects" from selling Jack, Monty, Straton, the shortstop, and the blue glove guy?
Rom is gone, or hurt.
Prieto will be 27 and likely we won't have room on the 40 man to keep him.
Sagesse profiles very much as a utility player and not a needle mover.
Roby has been hurt more than he's been healthy and just had TJ and will miss all next year as well, then have to recover and get more MiLP experience before even thinking about when and if he can contribute WAR in STL.
King is a negative WAR pen pitcher and probably a prime non-tender candidate.

Plus we haven't exactly taken many high risk/high reward guys in the 2nd and later draft rounds the past 2 years.

McGreevey looks decent, though not a 1 or 2. We might get a servicable SP in Matthews, but then again we might not. 2 good SPs played the year out in AA and are set for promotion, but are still far enough away they are hard to project.

Certainly some movement, plenty of failures, some success, but no massive wave of future top talent that is primed to create a dynasty, no matter how good the development program is. We just haven't drafted that level of talent and haven't acquired it in the Intl Markets. And we certainly aren't going to get the next Bobby Witt or Hunter Greene by trading $ vets.

I just don't see major needle moving progress in our farm system during 2026.

Burleson’s contribution: 6 HRs 20RBIs from mostly 3-spot.
