He was not the best anything in baseball at that time. Not even close.

He's 100% a guy the Cards did now want to pay, and wisely so.

He's currently hitting .225 with a .655 OPS in 2025.

He was still a success story of our much hated on farm system. As is Donovan and Nootbar, and Helsley and Jack Flaherty.

One wonders about the feasibility of putting all our chips on a revamped farm system to turn this organization around long term when the success stories that do get churned out have such a limited shelf life.
