Nine of their top twelve prospects are pitchers. Maybe one or two will interest Bloom.

What they get will be directly proportional to how much money the cards eat I don’t know how much cheap Dewitt will be willing to eat. If he’s willing to eat a considerable amount they can probably get a decent prospect if he wants to Scrooge mcduck it and add some more gold coins to his vault to swim around in and have the other team eat a lot of it they are getting a lottery type prospect at best

A “rumor,” you say?
Link? Source?
We all know it will be either 1) your usual speculative SI/MSN/RedbirdRants clickbait cr@p; or 2) something you made up.

If, indeed, 9 of Atlanta’s top 12 prospects are pitchers, it begs the question why do they need Sonny?

Stop at their #5 prospect....anything after that (#6-12) wouldn't land in our Top 12...that's how bad the Braves system is at the moment.
If we pay 2/3 of Gray's salary, I 'd ask for Caminiti and Lodise (SS...hit like a beast with FSU last year). I wanted Caminiti 2 years ago before the end of the 2023 season...we cratered enough to have the 5th worst record and the #7 pick...so we got JJ instead.
I could live with McKenzie and Lodise....and still more than willing to pay 2/3 of his salary.
That's not going to happen, the Cards won't pay that much.
We'll be stuck with middling prospects...which isn't bad. Trading in the offseason is tricky, b/c no team's head is held over the fire, like it is at the trade deadline...when your returns are greater...even for a rental.
-----------
plus, if you look closer at their pitching prospects....they don't have good swing and miss stuff, which our organization CRAVES at the moment. We don't need more control type pitchers.
Did you even look?

Gray would definately approve a trade to ATL since it is close to his family and Atlanta would have been a contender except for the exceptional amount of injuries to their pitching staff and everyday players. Braves will not be in a rebuild. It would be a natural match. Cards could acquire some good prospects from the Braves. Cards could send Jordan Walker to Braves to sweeten the trade. Jordan is from Stone Mountain near ATL. He may excel better there. Cards could get a good return.

Atlanta knows a LOT more inside info on their own prospects than the prospect ratings know. Alex Anthopoulos will only let go of the prospects he has reason to have lost interest in because he knows they won't help the Braves enough to be worth protecting from a trade. We aren't getting a steal this way.

They aren’t going to spend the money they save so they might as well try to go for a good prospect and anthopoulis makes mistakes same as any other baseball executive

Because every GM wants to help the Cardinals by taking our trash in return for their gold. Don’t you know this?

That's fair and goes for whomever they trade with. DeWitt has the opportunity to refute the opinion that has spread thru Cardinals Nation that he has become a cheap owner. It could go a long way toward generating some positive vibe among the fans if he bucks up and eats enough of the Gray and Arenado contracts to bring back good prospects. And we haven't heard from Contreras yet. Bill thinks the optics were bad with all the empty seats. Wait until they are empty and no one has paid for them.

Is the intent to get a guy to waive his NtC or to get a better return.
Why trade Gray? Best pitcher- a strong number two. What do you get back. Nothing like Gray.why even make such a deal.

You know the answer. Like just about every personnel move with this owner, it’s all bout the money.

I hear ya. And look at this texas sized mud hole we are in.
Year or two ago, I thought we could return to prominence simply because that’s what we do/did. Stay relevant.
Now I see us so far away, and with limited resources, we might truly become a flightless bird.
This could be serious.

I don't know about a rumor but it's been mentioned that he prefers to stay close to home. So Reds, Braves, and Cards but got to remember he played for the As, Yankees, and Twins so that's not a hard fast rule with him.

Gray has struggled in July throughout his career since he sweats like Esteban Yan, affecting his grip. Atlanta's summer heat is even worse and longer lasting than in St. Louis. So Atlanta may be wary of him.
Baltimore would be a nice fit on paper. They need starters to get back in contention next year. But they may not want his contract or having to trade prospects.
