October will be a most boring baseball month for the Cardinals rebuild

No games, and no transactions. No development, no updates from our top 2 prospects. Just nothing.

Unless Oli gets fired the day after the season ends there won't be much of anything for a while as the playoffs slowly unfold without us. Bloom's tenure will start with a whimper, not a bang.

There will be nothing of any substance going on until the winter meetings Dec 7-8. Maybe Oli news, but that is about it. Maybe, just maybe there will be something during or right after the winter meetings though. Hopefully none of the "the market just didn't go where we expected" excuses....

Wonder if any coaches will be leaving ?
Sometimes those on an expiring contract know the club isn’t planning on retaining them so the coach pursues other options.

All the QOs and maybe non-tenders should happen 5 days after the WS ends right? Except we have no QO candidates.

We could resign ARB eligible or FA players during Nov, I think. MM is probably gone but if they do something weird like an incentive contract its probably sooner than later.

Free agents can be signed as early as early November. Arbitration eligible players typically are signed in spring.

It would be interesting if they held an end of season press conference with Bloom where he laid out a plan and talked about whatever else is on his mind. The news that the old guy is out the door and the new guy is in will be all the excitement I need for October.

I would be surprised if any of them are fired. Oli said he and bloom met with Herrera to go over what he needs to do in the off season as far as preparation for catching I would think he would wait until the offseason to meet with him with the new manager if he were intending to fire him. So I’m betting oli will be back

Technically Bloom's tenure doesn't start until November. There are some transactions you can still make in October as well, but they would be minor.

I will be interested in the 40 man plan. Who gets dropped and who gets added. Not sure when the timeline is though.

I'd like to hope we'd know soon. It would be nice to see Bloom get the ball rolling ASAP on 40-man decisions and act efficiently.

It'll be interesting to watch his press conference.

Not expecting much this offseason, but if I hear "the market didn't go in the direction we thought it would" then I'm going to egg the stadium. I don't want that excuse ever again. I can accept being outbid--it happens sometimes. But there's been a clear trend for YEARS now as far as what players are getting paid...and it ain't getting smaller.

This team is full of redundancy and catching is one of them. Cards largest free agent signing was for a catcher in Contreras who now plays first. Cards have Pages as their top defensive catcher with Pozo as his backup. They have Herrera leading team in OPS that wants to move back to catcher which would affect his offense and he is not a good defensive catcher. Three of their top 6 prospects are catchers Crooks, Bernal, and Rodriguez.

Maybe Cards could trade for a catcher and play him at 3rd and sign another catcher to be DH. :D
This team loves catchers.

today (no game) is an indication of what it's going to be like every day starting Monday.
I don't like it at all.

Hopefully lots of planning and groundwork laid in October. I am optimistic Bloom will be working. Mo has spent the past few Octobers thumbing through the Brooks Brother's catalog and drinking wine coolers.

As will I.
As for “boring”??? Will it be a boring or exciting month for the other 17 teams that don’t make the playoffs????
